Our employment opportunity of the moment: Knowledge Sharing Officer

The Programs and Partnerships Branch (PPB) is responsible for driving the International Development and Research Centre’s (IDRC) pursuit of increased global impact and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. Comprised of five distinct program divisions:

PPB’s continued development of external partnerships is fundamental to IDRC’s 2030 strategic research for development goals.

The branch is currently seeking to fill permanent and temporary Knowledge Sharing Officer positions in some of its divisions to be based in Ottawa (Hybrid Mode). These positions will have a particular focus on enabling and supporting the uptake and use of research results, as well as the strategic positioning of the Centre.

Tasked with the responsibility of progressing research generated evidence into action and creating positive impact in relation to key development challenges, the Knowledge Sharing Officer will be key to supporting the Program Division and the Centre in the achievement of its knowledge sharing objectives as part of the overall strategy of the Centre.

These positions will report to each of their respective Program Director and will support the program area by assuming responsibilities related to:

  • Research evidence and uptake strategies and activities
  • Knowledge management and monitoring of program results
  • Centre-wide collaboration
  • Representation and Networking

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Master’s degree in a field related to the program area including learning in knowledge sharing, knowledge translation and/or international development

Experience

Three (3) years of combined experience in knowledge translation, knowledge sharing and research, including:

  • Developing and implementing knowledge translation strategies and plans
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and synthesizing research results, for a policy or practitioner audience
  • Building and maintaining relationships and networks among different sectors or groups

Language

  • English and French intermediate reading, writing, and speaking skills

Knowledge

  • Implementation of research-into-use strategies
  • Relevant global research landscape, including its key stakeholders, actors and brokers
  • Knowledge sharing and knowledge translation approaches and methodologies

Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to discern trends and identify and analyze program issues related to knowledge sharing
  • Ability to plan and design knowledge sharing activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to both strategic orientations and detail to develop and verify the quality of knowledge sharing products and initiatives
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with other stakeholders while showing an innovative and enterprising spirit
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision, while meeting deadlines
  • Value and model diversity, inclusion and equity

Additional Information

* Some positions may be filled as term assignments.

As a result of this process, the Centre may establish a pool of pre-qualified candidates for future permanent and term opportunities.

Hybrid Mode: Have the flexibility to work in hybrid mode (at least 3 days out of 10 in the office).

This position requires occasional international travel.
