Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Language Support Services, Registry, under the direction of the Chief of the Language Support Services, IRMCT.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head, English Translation Unit, LSS IRMCT, the incumbent of the post is responsible for receiving documents for translation from clients (Registry, Chambers, OTP, Office of the President and all other sections of the Mechanism) through the Translation Tracking System (TTS), assigning documents for translation to available in-house English and BCS translators and ensuring an equitable distribution of the workload.
The incumbent discusses requirements for the translation with the requesting party; negotiates deadlines when necessary, taking into account the nature and complexity of the documents, the needs of the requester and the capacity of translation resources. When required, assists ODM in document management through TTS.
The incumbent performs a variety of linguistic tasks from English into BCS and vice-versa: proofreads and formats translations of texts; assists in referencing of documents; carries out research for translators upon request. Uses in-house terminology databases and applies other LSS conventions to ensure accuracy of translations and consistency with in-house usage and takes on other administrative support assignments for the LSS as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience related administrative/language experience, preferably in an international environment, is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. For this post fluency in written and oral English is required, as well as fluency in written and oral BCS (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian) is required.
Assessment
Selection will be based upon comparative analysis of the candidates.
Special Notice
• This position is temporarily available until 22 December 2023. Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

The appointment is limited to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General.
