Background

The 2022-24CGIAR Technical Reporting Arrangement calls for annual technical reporting by CGIAR Initiatives, Platforms and Science Group Projects (Type 1), with a once every three-year report of CGIAR contributions to outcomes and impacts, drawing on the whole CGIAR portfolio (Type 2). The Type 2 report will be finalized in Q2 of 2025.

The Portfolio Performance Unit has advanced work for this report, for example, developing its contents through a consultative process, compiling reported outcomes and impacts, and tagging them according to certain descriptors and commissioning studies that aim to address known gaps.

Inputs for the report will come from many authors, but there is need to have an overall lead writer who can coordinate the outputs from different writers, assemble, review and harmonize different pieces and lead the writing of the overall report and specific sections within it e.g. executive summary.

Tasks and Deliverables

a. Tasks

1. Provide inputs into the design / format of the report

2. Coordinate with various contributing authors the writing of the Type 2 Report

3. Assemble and review all sections of the report

4. Lead the writing of designated sections, including summaries of reported outcomes, an executive summary of the report

5. Coordinate the internal CGIAR review of the report and integrate comments into the final version

b. Deliverables

The Type 2 Report on CGIAR contributions to outcomes and impacts 2022-2024 (draft by April 2025, final version by June 2025)

Expected level of effort:

Approximately 65 days in total, spread as follows:

15-20 days in 2024

45 –50 in 2025

Requirements

Successful candidates will show:

  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Evidence of undertaking a complex synthesis drawing upon many inputs
  • Knowledge of CGIAR, its Results Framework and how its research contributes to outcomes and impacts
  • Technical expertise in any of the CGIAR impact areas is a plus (poverty, environment, climate, gender, nutrition)
  • Knowledge of impact assessment and the quality of science/evidence.
  • PhD or at least ten years relevant working experience required
