The position is to be filled as soon as possible with an unlimited contract duration. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Legal Counsel you stabilize and professionalize the in-house legal advice of Welthungerhilfe. You will be in charge of legal matters of the organization independently and comprehensively on head office level and program country level, including the identification and management of legal risks.

Your responsibilities

  • Independent and autonomous review of the legal framework relevant to the organization, in particular in the areas of association and foundation law, corporate law, general contract law, public procurement law, industrial property rights (especially licensing and trademark law), criminal law, general non-profit law, consortium and project contract drafting, general terms and conditions law, national and international dispute resolution and other “core legal areas”.
  • Independent and autonomous preparation of legal opinions on specific legal issues, as well as provision of internal legal advice in core areas of law
  • Independent and autonomous legal drafting and negotiation of contracts
  • Independent and autonomous preparation and execution of organization-internal trainings on core legal areas
  • Supporting program country activities as well as specialist departments in legal areas
  • Introduction and maintenance of general contract management, including drafting and maintenance of templates, use of legal tech solutions
  • Development and maintenance of legal databases
  • Management of external law firms in coordination with department management
  • Support of the department management in pro bono acquisitions

Your profile

  • A degree in law in a European or Anglo-American legal system
  • At least 5 years of relevant international work experience
  • High level of social competence, negotiation skills, persuasiveness, and a high degree of self-organization
  • Analytical, networked and structured thinking, as well as solution-oriented and creative working style
  • Ability to work calmly and deliberately even under high pressure
  • Willingness to travel to program countries
  • Very good knowledge of English, further language skills relevant to the organization are desirable
