Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the UN Library and Archives Geneva. The incumbent is responsible for managing the Connection and Access Unit. This position reports to the Chief, Library Services Section.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Librarian will be responsible for the following duties: • Selects material for the development of collections; coordinates selections, loans and display of materials, ensures their accordance with collection development policies. • Manages welcome/event spaces and virtual service desk. Integrates and balances user and institutional needs, including applying experience with commercial sources of information. Maintains communication with networks in the relevant fields and with associations of library and information specialists. • Evaluates adequacy of existing reference tools. Implements new technologies in information management to ensure that new tools developed for efficient access to information are accessible to staff throughout the Organization. • Advises other units and departments seeking expertise in information architecture, content organization, and meta-data, including Internet/Intranet sites. • Conducts programs of outreach and user education to improve client use of desktop information resources; uses judgment of relevant institutional needs to develop presentations appropriate to client audience; develops marketing and publicity materials to facilitate outreach; designs and substantially contributes to production of digital media and digital/hybrid events and produces onsite events. • Guides, trains and supervises general service and professional staff in the function. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in library science, information science, communications or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in library work, information network administration or related area is required. A minimum of two years of experience in data analytics, in digital media production and digital/hybrid/onsite event production or related area is desirable. A minimum of two years of experience working in international organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised fluency in English or French is required; knowledge of the other is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
