Job Overview:
The livelihood and Food Security Technical Assistant will support NRC’s Agriculture based -food production development projects, as well as other private sector and market based livelihoods projects as needed. He/she will work under the direct supervision of Livelihoods & Food Security (LFS) Officer.

Responsibilities:
Generic responsibilities:
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
- Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Ensure proper filing of documents
- Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
- Development of holistic and needs based programmers, including cash-based interventions and marked based programs
Specific responsibilities:
- To assist LFS officer and LFS team in the identification of vulnerable and eligible households for the agribusiness Food production support and other income generation activities.
- Support the LFS officer and LFS team on technical as well as extension methodology and the introduction of staple food crops, off-season production as well as exploring opportunities and models for contract farming.
- Support the LFS officer and LFS team on Integrated Pest and Diseases Management (IPM) Techniques, Surface irrigation, Storage and transportation techniques.
- Support LFS officer and LFS team In applying Good Agricultural Practices for Staple vegetable crops such as Potatoes, Onions, Tomatoes and Promoting staple crop production opportunities.
- Help LFS team to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable groups in the community (including women) are targeted and included in all livelihood and Food security activities
- To deliver agriculture related trainings on agribusiness management, plant disease, fundamental of the plants, food security value chain, Business development related trainings and ongoing support to the selected beneficiaries to ensure they produce income.
- Liaise/ consult regularly with private sector actors to identify areas with high potential for small business development or employment – in order to properly advise beneficiaries on realistic business development opportunities.
- Maintain clear and up to date records of beneficiaries and activities (beneficiary numbers, locations, contact details, activity progress) and ensure proper filing of documents
- Help the M&E and LFS teams to collect baseline and monitoring data by conducting interviews with beneficiaries and key informants and Immediately report any challenges or implementation delays to the LFS Officer
- The LFS assistant will also support private sector livelihood projects and Provide business and life skill trainings to beneficiaries enrolled in small-enterprise development project, in small groups (at beneficiaries’ houses or in communal spaces within the community). Helping beneficiaries identify what type of business they want to establish, where, and with who.
- Assist LFS officer in drafting a business plan and budget for this business; spend the start-up cash grants in the most effective way.
- Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
- Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including cash for business start-up and cash for food.
- Support Emergency Coordinator. Or PM to Prioritize the emergency activities in different region such as field assessments, distribution, responses, PDM, risk monitoring, HR, Finance or Logistics and coordination.
- Performs any other task as assigned by supervisor.
Generic professional competencies:
- Minimum 3 years of experience from food security and livelihood working in agriculture-based projects and in income generation activities with an NGO/INGO.
- Fluency in both local languages (Pashto and Dari)
- Good understanding of the displacement in Afghanistan
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience establishing and managing kitchen gardening and small business
- Experience in mentoring youth and people with basic education levels
Context/ Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Bachelor Degree from agriculture, economics or business administration is required
- Experience of working in the agriculture, livelihood and food security projects
- Experience of providing mentorship to mentees particularly for farmers on the local areas.
