Job Description

  1. Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the Livelihood Food Security Assistant position is to implement delegated project Livelihood Food Security portfolio activities in designated areas. The following is a brief description of the role.

Generic responsibilities (max 10)

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work- and Professional Development Plan.

 

1.           Coordinate the LFS activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans

2.           Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements

3.           Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities

4.           Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans

5.           Coordinate with relevant partners

6.           Ensure that procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures

7.           Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents as required

8.           Investigate and facilitate the introduction of new technology, methods, and approaches to improve the quality of the activities

Specific responsibilities 

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus, and type of program intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  1.  Conduct grass root beneficiaries’ mobilization and registration in the project sites
  2. Conduct Input distribution to registered beneficiaries of demonstration vegetable seeds, tools, and fishing kits)
  3. Support in the establishment of demonstration plots for training on good agronomic practices
  4. Participate in developing farmers’ training programs based on farmer fields school approach/demonstration gardens.
  5. Facilitate the formation and strengthening of smallholder agriculture producers in groups and train them on improved agriculture production.
  6. Provide support to youths and establish and support the management of temporary tree nurseries.
  7. Train nursery caretakers on tree seedling production and management
  8. Facilitate and gather information on market systems, market analysis, and mapping in the state.
  9. Facilitate implementation of cash transfer/grants component within the food security and livelihoods program
  10. Be aware of conflict and interest mitigation measures within cash transfer programming.
  11. Facilitate and strengthen income-generating activities (IGA) of target groups.
  12. Contribute to the preparation of training content and materials.
  13. Take the lead in beneficiaries’ training on the various training topics under implementation.
  14. Conduct field data collection for baseline survey and evaluation, Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM), Pre- and Post-harvest assessment
  15. Any other duties identified by the supervisor.

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Project planning: CC Specialists
  • Area operations: Support Coordinators (field office coordinators)
  • Staff capacity building:  CC Specialists, HR
  • Implementation: CC Specialists

Scale and scope of position

Staff: Numbers and titles of staff or daily workers/incentive staff responsible for overall in the unit shall be determined at the field level
Stakeholders: Key external stakeholders the post has relationships with UN agencies, INGOs, local NGOs, civil society, governmental bodies
Budgets: List of budgets covered by post holder, and size of budget, no budget management -(SSFM2324_SDC)
Information: GORS, Bi-Weekly, Project Proposals, Intranet
Legal or compliance: Terms of employment, vendor requirements, donor requirements

Generic professional competencies for this position: 

  • Educational background in Agriculture and rural development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Livelihood & Food Security project implementation, or related field.
  • Experience in community mobilization and extension services
  • proven communication, interpersonal, representation, and negotiation skills.
  • Previous experience with international NGOs is an advantage.

  •  Fluency in spoken/written English.
  • fluency in Arabic and Dinka.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Valid driving motorcycle license and national identity document are a requirement. Application Procedure:

  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile

Context-related skills, knowledge, and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):

  • Must have a Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the LFS context in South Sudan and the specific program area
  • Knowledge of local Arabic is an advantage.
  • Experience with ongoing program implementation.
