JOB DETAIL

Result of Service

The incumbent will produce a monthly activity report and submit not later than on the 5th day of the following month to his/her supervisor. The report shall include all activities and tasks undertaken during the reporting period and its outcome and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in, Mission Support Center (MSC)within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), based in Mogadishu, Somalia. The logistics Assistant (Individual Contractor) will directly report to the Chief of Somali Security Forces Support Unit (SSF SU) and shall be responsible for provision of logistics support services.

Within the limits of delegated authority, the logistics assistant (Individual Contractor) will perform the following duties:

1. Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, and coordination of logistics support operations. Ensures effective and timely provision and coordination of diverse logistics support requirements.
2. Liaises between various stake holders, including UNSOS, SSF, JSOC, ATMIS staff and various SSF offices on logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations.
3. Ensures the monitoring of UNSOS support material is distributed according to UNSCR mandate and accounted for.
4. Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
5. Performs other related duties as required. Establishes and maintains an effective and efficient organization for the central control and coordination of all issuances from the SNA Trust Fund.
6. Coordinates and directs the planning of loads and tasking of UN transport resources, which includes liaison with MOVCON, SUPPLY, AIR OPS for carriage through SFR and regular flights, for the multi-modal movement of personnel and the physical distribution of supplies, material and equipment, throughout the Mission AOR.
7. Maintains effective liaison with all Sections, including Budget, to obtain accurate information is shared in a transparent manner for costings and reporting.
8. Visits to the regional hubs, with the possibility of overnight stays.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma is required.
A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of logistics or other related fields is required.
Working experience in post conflict environment is desirable.
Practical work experience in logistics support to military units and knowledge of computer system for tracking and updating inventory records is desirable.
Training in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, inventory, asset management or another relevant field is desirable.

Languages

English is the working language of the United Nations. For this job, fluency in both verbal and written English is required.
