LOGISTICS ASSISTANT Bangui

This vacancy is located within the Security Section of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The incumbent will be based in Bangui and will report to Head of the unit.

LOGISTICS ASSISTANT Bangui Responsibilities

Within the limits of delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for performing the following duties: Logistics Support and Coordination
• Identifies all routine logistics transportation requirements within the mission, prepares, implements, and controls appropriate methods to cater for them, ensuring optimal utilization of available resources. Provides logistical and operational support to mission clients in terms of lifeline commodities and services such as fuel and rations in coordination with the mission logistics supply section/unit.
• Participates in generating an effective and efficient logistics planning and coordination with all Mission logistics related stakeholders and clients.
• Reviews Mission’s logistics implementation plan and operational directives to develop effective deployment plans and prioritization for goods and passenger movements to mission location.
• Participates and ensures the development of logistics emergency, contingency plans and identifies ways to overcome obstacles when delivering goods. Transport/Movement Management
• Coordinates the provision of ad-hoc transportation requirements including staff movement for duty purposes, and troop deployment/rotations.
• Coordinates and ensures assignments for the cooperative use of vehicles and equipment with contingents and other UN agencies.
• Researches and analyses operational usage and performance trends, legal, administrative, and legislative requirements, supports the development of training for staff and other mission personnel as required.
• Prepares documentation for review of mission asset holdings including vehicles, for senior management review and decision making.
• Completes periodic reports and documentation regarding provision of logistics support.
• Ensures regions are fully supported with the all parts and materials as needed in coordination with the other support sections and regional hubs as necessary. Asset Management
• Ensures proper storage of items in warehouse or transit.
• Ensures timely issuance and delivery of material / spare parts needed for mission clients.
• Conducts regular inventories of assets under their responsibility.
• Assists in the process of assets disposal, including hazardous waste, through applicable methods, in compliance with all UN international and local regulations, rules and requirements.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid Driver’s license, including the ability to operate a manual-transmission light vehicle in 4×4 conditions, is required. Technical or vocational certificate in logistics, transportation or asset management is desirable.

LOGISTICS ASSISTANT Bangui Work Experience

A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in remote logistics operations, supply, supply-chain management, or large-scale fleet management or asset management or related area is required. Experience within the UN common system or other similar international organization is desirable. Experience in support services and logistics/supply management is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French is required.
