Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The incumbent plans, coordinates and provides logistics support to ongoing air, land and river operations in the area, as well as support to military, police, security and substantive components of the mission. She/he also identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Drafts, reviews and updates mission specific logistic SOPs and formulation and development of contingency planning (CONPLANS). • Coordinates the provision of logistics support to ongoing air, land, sea, or rail operations in the mission area. • Plans and co-ordinates logistics support to missions transitions and closures. • Identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations. • Provides and coordinates logistics support to military, police, security and substantive components of the mission. • Drafts and coordinates logistics plans and other documents supporting the implementation of logistics operations. • Drafts and coordinates inputs to logistics reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other information documents required by the management, including inputs required by the UNHQ. • Liaises and coordinates logistics support with other Services within the Mission Support • Division, and outside MSD with security and substantive offices. • Coordinates logistics requirements with other UN and non-UN organizations in the Mission / country, and Host Government entities. • Liaises and coordinates logistics support with UNHQ. • Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field or graduation from an equivalent military educational establishment is required. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of education, professional or graduation from an equivalent military educational establishment is required. A first level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Professional Training/Qualification in the fields/specialization of logistics and/or supply chain and/or project management is required.
Work Experience
At least five (05) years of progressively responsible professional experience in planning, coordinating and managing multi-functional logistics support operations in the field is required. Experience in drafting logistics reports, developing plans, policies and SOPs is required. Experience in providing logistics and supply chain support services in a complex, volatile, conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable. At least two year experience within the context of a humanitarian relief, military, emergency management, peacekeeping or disaster relief operation in an international environment is required. Supervisory experience in budget, staffing and performance management and reporting is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
