Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), duty station Mogadishu. The MSC plans, coordinates and interfaces with all mandated clients – African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), the Somali Security Forces (SSF) and any other supported entities – to provide timely and effective logistics support. The incumbent will perform the duties of Logistics Officer cross cutting across all MSC units and works on a day-to-day basis with Chief MSC and reports to the Chief MSC (FRO).
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer at this level will be responsible for the following duties: Operations Receive, review and analyze logistic support requests from clients. 􀁸 Participates in, or leads, technical surveys to Mission locations, Sector HQs and ATMIS Forward Operating Bases (FOBs). Prepare and distribute sector visit reports. Attend joint meetings and working groups and prepare briefing notes accordingly. 􀁸 Assist in the planning and coordination of logistic support as ATMIS reconfigure as part of the Somali Transition Plan (STP). 􀁸 Ensures the monitoring of material and personnel movement operations. 􀁸 Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of daily, routine and operational support 􀁸 Ensures effective and timely provision and coordination of diverse logistic support requirements. 􀁸 Integrates and monitors the implementation of Logistic Support Plans (LSP). 􀁸 Liaises between UNSOS Sections and ATMIS Headquarters staff on logistics matters and coordinates day-to-day support of logistics operations. Administration 􀁸 Assist in the preparation of LSPs. Assist in the preparation of After Action Reveiws. 􀁸 Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. 􀁸 Develops plans and procedures for assessing material, staff, troops and associate movements, planning and costing of operational budgets. 􀁸 May coordinate and direct a team of staff and/or mentor and supervise the work of new/junior officers Ensures that staff are trained and identifies any additional training needs. Performs other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience
A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in land or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. The minimum years are reduced to seven years for candidates who possess a first level university degree. Experience in supervising and providing logistics support in UN Common system field operations is desirable. Experience in developing logistics plans, policies, procedures, and new strategies and providing technical and procedural advice in a broad range of logistics areas is desirable. Experience in operating in high tempo, hardship duty station(s) is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
