Position Overview

The Girl Up Manager, Alumni will lead the strategy, execution, and expansion of Girl Up’s Alumni network, creating programming, events, and a young donor fundraising pipeline, in addition to creating and leading longitudinal monitoring and evaluation to measure impact. The Manager, Alumni will also manage mentorship pairings for youth 18 to ~30 years old to develop their leadership skills, identify and work towards their educational, career, and personal goals, and build meaningful and authentic connections with professional and personal networks in a global community. The Girl Up Manager, Alumni will lead expansive outreach, membership engagement, recruitment, and programmatic strategy. They will have an entrepreneurial spirit, excel as a relationship builder and communicator, and cast vision while managing the details necessary to achieve that vision. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with their peers, and a commitment to Girl Up’s mission and Core Values.

The Manager, Alumni, Girl Up will report to the Director, Programs & Impact, and be a member of the Program team. The Manager, Alumni will collaborate across Girl Up’s other departments, including Development, Communications, and Global Operations.

This position is based in Washington, DC or U.S. remote.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and grow 1,000+ member alumni network for young professionals aged 18 to ~30 years old from diverse backgrounds and 152 countries.
  • Lead strategy, set long and short-range goals and overall program direction in partnership with the Director, Programs and Impact.
  • Execute on alumni/mentorship program events strategy, planning, and execution, including setting up registration links, designing promotional graphics, prepping speakers, etc.
  • Liaise with Development Team to create and pilot young donor program and establish annual revenue goals.
  • Create monitoring and evaluation framework to measure effectiveness of program/services; utilize data to identify areas of improvement and incorporate changes.
  • Lead alumni functions including alumni publications, fundraising, recognition and awards, reunions and other special events and services.
  • Manage the Alumni Network Steering Committee to advise on Alumni Network progress, outreach, and recruitment.
  • Liaise with the Communications Team for the creation, development and execution of all Alumni graphics, for publicity and promotional materials, in the development of the Alumni network webpage and external Alumni communications.
  • Convene and guide the Alumni staff working group.
  • Execute Girl Up’s Alumni Mentorship program, matching members of its Alumni Network to professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries.
  • Develop program structures that enhance mentee understanding of personal strengths and aspirations, ability to manage career and lifestyle issues, and achieve their personal, professional, or social action goals.
  • Represent Girl Up Alumni Network to private sector partners from various corporations and create new areas for collaboration.
  • Update and maintain listservs for all Alumni programs.
  • Publish weekly content on alumni LinkedIn page.
  • Create and update program performance metrics and evaluation criteria.
  • Support other initiatives as needed cross-programmatically.
  • Support with girl engagement across all programs and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 5-7 years of work experience in program or community management in relevant fields, such as gender equality, alumni management, and/or youth engagement required.
  • Commitment to Girl Up’s mission and core values
  • Ability to think critically and creatively
  • Experience working with and for young people globally, including those from diverse backgrounds, on social change-focused campaigns, programs, or initiatives
  • Experience with ways of working that center and empower marginalized advocates and youth required
  • Robust project management skills, including attention to detail, and a track record of consistently delivering high-quality work required
  • Knowledgeable in adolescent girl issues and rights desirable
  • Commitment to fostering an anti-racist and inclusive workplace required
  • Ability to appreciate, embrace and advance diversity and have experience working with diverse populations
  • Excellent customer service skills with a passion for member engagement
  • Experience in Excel, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Asana, Canva and Outlook preferred
  • Preferred experience with a CMS
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of time
