The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking candidates for the position of Digital Marketing Manager. The Marketing team is responsible for the organization’s marketing fundraising initiatives in the United States.

The Digital Marketing Manager will manage the Digital Marketing Associate by conducting regular check-ins and overseeing the career growth, goals, and performance of the team member, and will report to the Managing Director, Director Response and Marketing, based in Washington D.C.

This full-time position will preferably be based on the East Coast of the United States, preferably in our New York or Washington, DC offices. We will also consider having the successful candidate based in São Paulo, Brazil.

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

Digital Marketing

  1. In partnership with the Managing Director of Direct Response and Marketing, Associate Director of Marketing, and Digital Marketing Associate, develop strategy to generate online revenue and engage supporters through digital marketing channels, such as but not limited to, email marketing, landing page optimizations, paid media and paid media ROI, digital marketing testing, and SMS marketing;
  2. Oversee working documents to track digital projects (i.e., sourcing, tracking, and appeal codes), including requesting and documenting URL redirects;
  3. Develop and execute social media posts for Human Rights Watch’s integrated marketing campaigns as needed;
  4. Oversee and launch all digital marketing assets in collaboration with the Digital Marketing Associate; develop 24–48-hour report backs of the success of campaigns;
  5. Manage the donor, email, and SMS acquisition strategy in all online channels;
  6. Oversee the implementation of social media fundraising tools, including collaborating with the Finance Division to establish monthly wire transfers, and coordinating with the Fundraising Systems and Data Analytics (FSDA) team to reconcile all donations;
  7. In partnership with the FSDA, Web Team, and Digital Marketing Associate, oversee the implementation of all digital optimizations on marketing’s online assets, including donation forms, lightboxes, email sign up forms, Engaging Networks pages, website banners, and SMS strategy;
  8. Monitor and develop SQL queries as needed in collaboration with the CRM team to ensure automations are executing correctly.
  9. Help coordinate communication between Web team and Marketing team, including the planning and coordination of all marketing activity integrated across HRW’s website;
  10. Responsible for monthly donor acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies on digital marketing channels.
  11. Oversee HRW’s co-op data selection and implementation, including working with our vendors to maximize revenue via record acquisition; and
  12. Work with Development’s midlevel team to devise strategy to maximize revenue and engagement online to move donors from first level to midlevel.

Testing and Optimizations

  1. Oversee the management, building, and execution of digital marketing campaign assets in Engaging Networks and Marketing Cloud as needed including the development and launching of email messages, donation pages, email sign up forms, online engagement action pages, confirmation screens, auto follow-up emails, and building the relevant coding and URL tracking as needed;
  2. In collaboration with the Digital Marketing Associate, devise and carry out A/B testing of emails, paid advertising, SMS, and marketing pages and forms;
  3. Create strategy and build marketing automation journeys for multiple audiences;
  4. Troubleshoot with Web Team on website fundraising elements that interact with Salesforce, Engaging Networks, and Marketing Cloud, including lightbox, website elements, and sign-up functionality;
  5. Build individual emails in Engaging Networks on ad hoc basis and provide reporting on performance metrics as needed;

Internal / Administrative

  1. Partner with the Managing Director of Direct Response and Marketing, Associate Director of Marketing, and Digital Marketing Associate on integrated Direct Marketing program management, including communicating information between vendors and facilitating project management;
  2. Coordinate with CRM team and FSDA on reporting, analytics, and digital marketing Salesforce dashboard to better understand performance of direct response and marketing campaigns.
  3. Partner with FSDA on the flow of data between Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, Engaging Networks and third-party platforms as needed.
  4. Oversee the media spend credit card utilized across Marketing and external parties, including pulling individual reports from all advertising platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Bing) as needed.
  5. Carry out other tasks as needed;

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in international relations, journalism, law, social sciences, marketing, or related studies is required.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in Direct Response or Digital Marketing, is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Strong interest in digital marketing and fundraising is required.
  2. Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent project management skills are required.
  3. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required. Proficiency in another language is desirable.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
  5. Strong technology skills and experience with fundraising CRMs (preferably Salesforce CRM, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Engaging Networks) is highly desirable; experience with Microsoft Office is required.
  6. Experience with VWO or other A/B testing platform is a plus.
  7. Experience in CSS, SQL, and HTML is a plus.
  8. Experience managing and utilizing an enterprise-level email marketing system such as Marketing Cloud or another comparable platform is required.
  9. Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to meet deadlines such as emergency campaigns are required.
  10. Creativity, initiative, follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are required.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of Human Rights Watch are essential.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits. HRW offers a relocation assistance package and will assist employees in obtaining necessary work authorization, if required; citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. This position is based in the United States and the salary range would be USD 80,000-88,000. Salary ranges outside of the United States vary based on location.
