About the position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global HR Policies, Talent & Rewards, the Manager for Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing is responsible for the design, implementation and review of global programs to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices across the Alliance and their overall effectiveness.

 

S/He identifies opportunities for improvement, develop action plans, and implement changes to enhance organizational safety performance and wellbeing.

 

S/He will partner with regional HR teams to:

  • ensure standards are consistently applied in all activities, maintaining reporting systems and facilitating a reporting culture to monitor incidents and injuries and identify hazards and risks.
  • develop and continuously build staff and management capability and knowledge, ensuring that people-safety indicators and preventative safe work practices and systems are in place to reduce the risk of work-related accidents and injuries.
  • develop and implement best practice, inclusive wellbeing initiatives and programs to support the unique cross-cultural needs of CGIAR’s diverse workforce.

 

S/He will closely partner with Business Operations and Finance to ensure related staff welfare and security is considered.

 

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Develop and implement global Occupational Health, Safety strategies policies and programs to create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Develop and partner with Regional HR teams to execute global programs to promote wellness, and wellbeing at the Alliance.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the effectiveness of occupational health, safety, and wellbeing programs and policies, including compliance at regional level.
  • Guide and advise Regional HR to ensure compliance and a coordinated approach to health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leaders to define health, safety, and wellbeing goals and develop programs to meet them, obtaining support and resources for implementing initiatives effectively.
  • Develops and maintains productive and reciprocal relationships related stakeholders, and counterparts in the CGIAR and international system.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external organizations, regulatory bodies, and industry groups to stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and legal requirements.

 

Requirements

  • Masters in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing global Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies and programs across a decentralized and matrixed organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards in various regions.
  • Excellent understanding of workplace health promotion and wellbeing trends and initiatives.
  • Experience facilitating culture change and cultivating a proactive Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain complex concerns, policies, and situations to audiences of all functions and levels.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, building trust and confidence to promote Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Professional certifications in OH&S related fields.
  • Proficiency in using tools for data analysis, reporting, and program management.
  • Working knowledge of English, Spanish or French are a plus.

Terms of Employment

This is a nationally recruited position based in Nairobi, Kenya. The initial contract will be for one year subject to a probation period of three months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. This position is graded at BG10 level in a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
