Position Title: Manager of Prospect Research

Reports to: Director of Prospect Management and Research

Location: Boston, MA or Remote US

Position Type: Full-time

 

Position Overview

 

The Manager of Prospect Research will supervise a team of research associates and coordinators who will conduct pro-active and reactive in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundations in order to find those whose goals and interests best align with a philanthropic interest in Partners In Health (PIH). As a leader on the research team, the Manager will help to plan and execute an effective prospect research strategy that both strengthens overall fundraising efforts and builds a channel of new donors. The Manager of Prospect Research will work closely with colleagues across teams and departments to ensure that workflows and projects are in line with the current priorities of the organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage up to four direct reports and manage workflows for the prospect research team and delegate research assignments to research associates and coordinators.
  • Conduct detailed research using public, proprietary, purchased or leased databases, newspapers, published materials and other resources to identify potential donors and funding sources.
  • Collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret biographical and financial data to produce briefings and reports that inform decision-making; these reports include calculated wealth estimates and capacity ratings that indicate the ability and propensity of individuals, corporations and foundations to make philanthropic contributions to and serve in volunteer capacities for PIH.
  • Design and execute comprehensive prospect acquisition strategies to identify potential new donors to direct ongoing fundraising efforts.
  • Work closely with the Board’s Governance and Nominating committee to help best identify potential new members.
  • Use prospecting tools such as data screening and modeling to provide analyses of targeted groups and overall prospect pool.
  • Use best practices and methodologies to improve and implement procedures and reports for prospect research
  • Oversee the training and management of junior level research staff.
  • Maintain constituent data in the Salesforce database for use by all development staff and assist with usage as needed.
  • Maintain and uphold the professional and ethical standards set by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) with 5+ years of prospect research experience for fundraising/development.
  • Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, writing, and project management skills.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders locally and in low-income countries.
  • Solid computer skills in a PC environment with the capability to master new software applications and technologies in database management. Excellent skills in the functional use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
  • Ability to locate and interpret biographic and financial information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle several projects simultaneously and re-prioritize as needed as well as strong experience with online databases, and Internet searching.
  • Interest in social justice strongly desirable.
