Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 981 million children and the prevention of more than 16 million future deaths.
THE ROLE Key functions and deliverables: |
• Support policy development and/or policy review processes as requested by the Gavi Board and other governance bodies and support the transition from policy to implementation;
• Support vaccine impact evaluation as part of the Vaccine Investment Strategy to inform vaccine investment cases; • Perform analyses of immunisation, health system, economic and demographic data relevant to the policies under review; • Conduct literature reviews in areas relevant to the policies under review; • Develop materials stakeholder consultations on policy development and policy review processes, and analyse results from consultations; • Conduct research to inform Policy Team guidance to implementing teams on interpretation and application of Gavi policies; • Ensure that policies are appropriately reflected in Gavi documents, such as country application guidelines, operational guidelines etc.; • Develop concept papers, conceptual frameworks, summary documents and reports as relevant and support the drafting of policy recommendations for Gavi governance processes; • Work on a diverse range of policy topics such as: gender equity; immunisation in fragile settings and emergencies; Gavi financial support modalities; vaccines and Gavi’s vaccine portfolio prioritisation; aid financing models (e.g. approaches to eligibility and transition from Gavi support); country co-financing etc.; • Scope new and innovative pieces of policy research relevant to Gavi’s operations as relevant; • Monitor relevant literature on vaccines, immunisation, global health and other areas relevant to Gavi’s operations. • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience working in global health or development;
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis methods; • Experience working on complex projects with diverse stakeholders; • Experience working with vaccines, immunisation or infectious diseases; • Desirable: good understanding of epidemiology, experience working in developing countries, preferably in the area of health. |
• A self-starter with excellent planning and project management skills, and with a pro-active work attitude;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; a logical thinker with intellectual curiosity and the ability to think strategically; • Excellent written (and oral) communication skills, with demonstrated ability to deliver high quality work within tight deadlines; • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds; ability to work in a multi-cultural environment; • Excellent information technology skills (e.g. MS Excel, MS PowerPoint); • Desirable: knowledge of health systems; familiarity with programmatic and institutional realities in developing country settings; competency in health economic analysis. |
• Fluent in English;
• French and/or other languages desirable. |
• Master in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health/Development Economics or equivalent essential.
