The Fundraising Systems & Data Analysis team of the Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Manager, Revenue Operations. The Manager for Revenue Operations will provide strategic, tactical, and operational planning for Revenue Operations personnel, and will ensure revenue business processes are streamlined and coordinated to support HRW’s fundraising, data, and relationship management needs.

The Manager, Revenue Operations will optimize and integrate HRW’s fundraising systems, working with the CRM and Digital Product owners to maximize HRW’s fundraising capabilities. They will be an income operations expert with a background in fundraising revenue operations (gift processing and coding, revenue reconciliation, banking, and caging).

This full-time position will ideally be based in either the United States or Europe, preferably in one of the cities where HRW has an office and will report to the Managing Director of Fundraising Systems and Data Analysis.

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely but is expected to work from the office1-2 times a week. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Governance

1. Work with the Information Technology (IT) CRM team and other colleagues in the Fundraising Systems & Data team to document and implement Salesforce policies around income and revenue and create associated procedures;

2. Assist the CRM and Digital Product owners set and enforce departmental guidelines for the procurement of ad hoc third-party fundraising tools and income streams, particularly outside of the United States., balancing HRW’s unique local fundraising needs with a centralized and efficient flow of data between supported tools; and

3. Complete audit and reconciliation processes, in conjunction with the finance team reducing the number of inconsistencies within the financial and CRM systems. Work with the global fundraising teams to ensure documentation exists for any income accruals and deferrals and evidence procured from the donor, where necessary.

Gift Processing & Reconciliation

1. Provide training to global fundraising staff who create contacts, pledges, and opportunities in Salesforce, and provide ongoing spot-checks and audits to ensure accuracy;

2. Monitor and ensure timely, accurate gift entry data into Salesforce, and provide expertise and support for gift data clean-up and revenue adjustments;

3. Review localized and regional gift entry processes and barriers to compliance with existing policies and processes;

4. Work with Fundraising Systems and/or IT colleagues to manage automated gift entry from banking platforms to the CRM, reviewing imported data for accuracy and updating donor attribution, soft credits, etc. as necessary;

5. Serve as primary point of contact for global fundraising teams outside of the United States doing local bank reconciliation on a monthly basis; and

6. Serve as the primary point of contact for all gifts at the Leadership Gift level ($100,000+ donations) with the global fundraising teams, ensuring notifications are sent out when gifts are received and acknowledgement details are confirmed.

Gift Management:

1. Work with caging vendor and New York-based office staff to ensure mailed gifts are received and processed in a timely fashion to support accurate accounting and timely donor acknowledgment;

2. Coordinate prospecting report with fundraising staff and caging vendor;

3. Oversee receipt and data entry of wire transfer gifts and third-party donations (e.g., Fidelity) with caging vendor;

4. Provide advisory support and training to the Marketing team processing mass market and third-party gifts, ensuring the data quality for their tracking needs are consistent; and

5. Ensure that gifts are coded correctly, liaising with both Finance and the global fundraising teams to ensure that details and consensus is reached.

Revenue Operations Process Improvement:

1. Recommend, implement, and continuously improve revenue processes, ensuring they are efficient, scalable, and aligned with organizational fundraising goals;

2. Collaborate with fundraising and finance teams to identify areas for process improvement and develop strategies to enhance effectiveness and efficiency; and

3. Monitor and analyze fundraising processes to identify bottlenecks, gaps, and opportunities for optimization.

Revenue Processing Quality Control:

1. Regularly audit staff-edited gifts and campaigns data in Salesforce to ensure accuracy;

2. Work with staff to fix revenue errors and facilitate training and documentation to avoid future errors;

3. Work with Data Quality & Integrations Analyst to identify and resolve large -scale data quality issues in revenue data; and

4. Work closely with the Fundraising Analytics team to ensure revenue data quality is accurate and supports long-term forecasting and revenue projections.

Other:

1. Serve as subject matter expert for all income streams and methods of giving across the organization, evolving system needs, priorities, capacity, and workflows, and ensure they are well articulated to ensure departmental understanding;

2. Supervise and mentor Revenue Operations staff, specifically the Revenue Operations Senior Officer to grow their capabilities within the fundraising CRM, data, and operations field;

3. Carry out other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in business, technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of work experience and qualifications, is required.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in nonprofit fundraising or finance, fundraising technology (Salesforce experience strongly preferred), data analysis, or sales/marketing operations is required. Knowledge and experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, preferably in a global INGO context with country-specific fundraising operations, is highly desirable.

Related Skills and Experience:

1. Demonstrated knowledge in best practices in nonprofit revenue management, budgeting, and financial practices, both in the United States and international context is required.

2. Strong understanding of fundraising principles and ethical best practices regarding financial stewardship and donor confidentiality is required.

3. Record of generating buy-in from, and exceeding expectations of, internal and external stakeholders is required.

4. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff is required.

5. Ability to work collaboratively and build trust with diverse stakeholders from around the globe, including staff for whom English is not their first language, is required.

6. Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising processes, strategies, and best practices is required.

7. Experience in vendor management is required.

8. Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills is required.

9. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and teams is required.

10. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision and work in a fast-paced environment is required.

11. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is required.

12. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is required. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits. HRW offers a relocation assistance package and will assist employees in obtaining necessary work authorization, if required; citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. If this position were to be based in the United States, the salary range would be USD 80,000-88,000. Salary ranges outside of the United States vary based on location.
