Manager, Technical and Policy (COPOLCO)
Role
This position supports the secretary of COPOLCO in all aspects related to the secretariat of COPOLCO. He/she is a seasoned expert managing the work of the assigned policy working groups, including plenaries, and collaborates with the ISO TC in matters related to consumer representation and interests in standards development.
Key responsibilities
- Designs and develops draft agendas and programmes for COPOLCO meetings and workshops, in cooperation with the Chair and working group convenors
- Manages assigned COPOLCO policy and technical groups, including working groups
- Manages the COPOLCO plenaries, including other events (e.g. workshops) planned in conjunction with the plenaries, which may involve travel
- Manages workshops and other events organized by CACM unit, which may involve travel
- Manages task groups set up by policy or working groups
- Drafts minutes at policy, working group and plenary meetings, which may involve travel
- Drafts and/or edits assigned items for COPOLCO working documents, and supports the COPOLCO chairs with correspondence, documents and reporting requirements
- Communicates with members and liaisons on COPOLCO related information and updates
- Maintains up to date the COPOLCO sections in various online platforms
- Maintains up to date the COPOLCO quality documents and contributes to the development, implementation and maintenance of CACM unit management system
- Handles routine enquiries on COPOLCO and consumer related matters
- Contributes content and supports the drafting of the COPOLCO e-newsletters and the COPOLCO’s Consumers and Standards Update report and handbook, as well as various awareness, promotion or training materials
- Contributes to the management and development of ISO Facebook page and twitter account, as relates to consumer matters, supports social media activities and implementation of strategies to publicize consumer issues in standards
- Performs occasional research on consumer interest themes for reports and presentations
- Investigates complaints addressed to ISO that relate to the areas of responsibilities of the CACM unit, specifically as it relates to COPOLCO areas of work and consumer matters
- Supports the drafting of strategy and annual workplans for COPOLCO, and follows up on assigned actions
- Contributes to the recruitment of experts to participate in COPOLCO activities
- Maintenance of ISO/IEC Guides under COPOLCO’s responsibility
- Design and management of Committee ballots and surveys
- Liaison with COPOLCO members and ISOCS units on proposals for new work items
- Make occasional presentations about COPOLCO or consumer policy matters at meetings and events of COPOLCO’s liaisons and other interested organizations
Report to: Director, Conformity Assessment and Consumer Matters
Qualification and Experience
- 10 years of experience in a related field, such as development of standards or similar consensus documents, and/or stakeholder engagement (such as but not limited to membership-based organizations and/or consumer organizations), and/or consumer advocacy and representation, and/or consumer protection organizations, including consumer protection agencies.
- University-level education or equivalent
- Project management knowledge and experience
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with strong English writing skills; good knowledge of French is an asset, but not essential to the role
- Proficiency with various IT tools: MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
- Knowledge and experience with social media platforms used for professional reasons is an asset
- Knowledge of consumer matters, specifically in the context of standardization is an asset
- Knowledge of the ISO System, standardization processes and ISO IT tools is an asset
