The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the fixed-term one year position of Manager to Engage with high-profile donors and prospects and co-lead fundraising events in Japan. The Tokyo Development team serves as an important base for HRW’s development, fundraising, and outreach efforts in Japan and across Asia. The team is dedicated to defend the humanity’s most fundamental values and galvanize the community of supporters to make an impact on people’s lives.
In collaboration with the Tokyo office team, the Manager will lead the work on fundraising events, including the HRW’s flagship charity gala event, and relationship-building and mobilization of donors and prospects, including the Tokyo Committee, a network of close supporters. The Manager will develop and maintain a portfolio of supporters, organize events and initiatives, and enhance both internal and external communication of the organization.
This full-time, fixed-term one year Manager position is based in Japan and reports to the City Director based in Tokyo. The successful candidate will be expected to work from the Tokyo office at least one day per week. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of five years of business experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with fundraising and philanthropy landscape in Japan and APAC is preferred.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
Other: The flexibility to work some evenings or weekends, as needed, related to event coordination is required. Applications for this position must possess valid Japanese work authorization.
Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits including commuting allowance and public social and labor insurance in Japan. The annualized salary for this position will be JPY 9,000,000 – 9,900,000.
