Organizational Setting

The Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Management Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS).

Among the four Sections, the Commissary Management Section (CMS) is responsible for the management of the Agency’s tax and duty-free store at the Vienna International Centre. The Commissary is a self-sustaining and non-profit making operation, enabling the purchase of selected consumer goods by the diplomats of Permanent Missions of Member States accredited to the UN organizations, staff members of the UN organizations based at the VIC as well as of other authorized organizations.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Retail Operations Manager, the Marketing and Communications Associate plays a key role in enhancing Commissary marketing activities towards existing and potential customers.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Provide marketing insights and analytics, by identifying trends and changes in customer segmentation and behaviour, carrying out market and customer research in the form of regular surveys, questionnaires and interviews, interpreting results, and recommending follow-up action.

• Prepare and analyse data and statistics, supporting management information sharing and decision making.

• Foster and increase customer base, by performing Commissary communication and PR activities towards organizations within and outside the Vienna International Centre. Establish good relationships with Permanent Mission diplomats and staff, high-ranking officers of the Vienna-based organizations, and with the key functions necessary to engage potential customers representations

• Coordinate and monitor the customer product assortment suggestions process, share updates and analytical reports with the Selection Sub-Committee

• Maintain and update information packages for newly recruited staff of all the organizations entitled to access the Commissary.

• Coordinate promotional activities across departments, including creating and supporting the implementation of an annual promotional plan.

• Monitor price benchmarks against competing retailers.

• Design and print advertising materials (monthly special offers, gifts with purchase, flyers, monthly Commissary Newsletter etc.);
Manage the Commissary website, providing detailed and engaging information to customers.

• Actively search for external companies who can be potential investors for the Commissary advertisements spaces.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Completed secondary education.
  • Additional specialized training at all levels in marketing is an asset.
  • At least six years of relevant experience including extensive experience in one or more of these fields: business management, product marketing, market research, communication, customer relations, promotional activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and intercultural expertise are essential.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 64965 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks’ annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
