Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is in the Engineering Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Malakal. The incumbent will report to the Building Management Unit (BMU) Supervisor of the Field Engineering Office in Malakal or his/her designate
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of Unit Supervisor Building Management Unit, Engineering Section Malakal, the Mason shall perform the following duties: • Maintains, repairs, constructs, demolishes, and upgrades buildings, warehouses, workshops, and other structures in AoR. • Undertakes bricklaying, tiling, polishing, painting and plastering (mixing mortar, preparing framework, setting blocks and casting concrete); Preparation and casting of concrete structures such as foundations, drainage channels, walls, perimeter fence, culverts, and other concrete support infrastructure; • Undertake / assist in installing/commissioning and operating/maintaining systems in the specific mason trade area in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to installation and safety codes; • Undertake site visits within AoR to prepare technical reports and read, interpret and close-out technical work-orders in conjunction with associate technical specification; • Alert the supervisor of Unit/Section of unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or are likely to occur as per his domain; • Prepare the demand of materials and equipment required for undertaking an assigned task; • Prepare service orders for engineering works; • Assist in monitoring the quality levels of the supply of materials and equipment for routine schedule maintenance; • Operate and maintain masonry tools/equipment ensuring they are in good working condition. • Read and interpret technical drawings to understand project requirements and dimensions; • Operate unit vehicle for official duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor; • Operate heavy engineering equipment as assigned by Unit Supervisor; • Performs any other duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor/Field Engineer;

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid Driving license for light vehicle is required. A valid driving license for heavy engineering equipment is desirable. Certificate showing technical competency at the journeyman level in Masonry is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years relevant working experience in the construction/building trades is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of languages spoken in South Sudan an added advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
