Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the guidance of the Senior Communications Manager in the Communications Division, the Media Specialist Consultant will contribute to the development of media and social media outreach strategy aimed at reinforcing the position of the Agency as a critical actor in the region. They will analyse media and social media trends to identify key narratives, risks, and areas of improvement. They will contribute to the development and implementation of crisis communications plans with a focus on humanitarian response and disinformation. They will identify key messaging and for social media dissemination aimed to generate public interest and increase media engagement. They will input and supervise the creation of content for media and social media outreach, including media lines, multimedia content, and communications plans. The Media Specialist Consultant will support the development of donor visibility strategies in key markets, in close cooperation with the Social Media Officer. DUTIES AND RESPONSAPILITIES • Support the development and implementation of a media and social media outreach strategy with a focus on crisis communications, humanitarian response, and disinformation. • Supervise and guide the creation of content for media and social media outreach, including media/social media packs, multimedia content, and communications plans. • Monitor and analyse media and social media trends to identify main narratives (positive and negative) to develop and implement media and social media engagement plans, risk management activities, and damage control strategies. • Use tracking and monitoring tools to identify challenges and potential in key markets, map media outlets, and develop targeted media and social media strategies. • Oversees the development of creative, innovative, and engaging audio-visual content for media and social media outreach, including video, infographics, and data visualization products with the graphic designers, multimedia specialists, and external providers. • Coordinate and support spokespersons with media outreach, including arranging interviews. • Manage media relations, respond to queries, share key information, visuals, and content with international media. • Input the update of key messages in communications and media outreach documents, including Media lines, Q&A, talking points, and social media narratives. • Support the development of donor visibility strategies in key markets in close cooperation with the Social Media Officer. • Work with the Senior Communications Manager to implement communications plans for UN Days, missions, events, and high-level meetings. • Other duties as assigned. DELIVERABLES AND PAYMENT SCHEDULE The deliverables for this consultancy are directly linked to the outputs outlined above. The consultant will be responsible for accomplishing these deliverables within a 03 or 04-month timeframe, commencing in September or October 2024. Monthly payments will be made, contingent upon the consultant’s progress update. The fee for this consultancy is set at US$ 290 per day.
Qualifications/special skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • A master’s degree from an accredited educational institute, preferably in communications, international affairs, social sciences, journalism, or a related discipline. • At least 05 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number. • Practiced communicator with demonstrated ability to condense information, adjust messages to target audience, and communicate in a well-structured way. • Experience in content creation for social media required. • Experience in audience-centric needs analysis and delivery is desirable. • Experience in UNRWA’s fields of operations is desirable. • Experience in the UN Common System, including its social media operations, is desirable. • Excellent communication skills. • Good capacity to analyze data. • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. • Track record of working independently, meeting tight deadlines, and coordinating the work of others. LANGUAGES • Excellent command of spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE • The duration of the consultancy is for 3 months with possible extension. • Expected start date of as soon as possible. • This consultancy is equivalent to P3 level- rate is $290/day. • This consultancy will take place in Amman, Jordan or remotely (to be online during working hours in the region) • An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in Programme Management, Economics, Business Administration, Social Science or any other related discipline.
