The Health Systems and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) is a thematically diverse division. It hosts Program on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Urban Health, Program on HIV & AIDS, Environmental Health and WASH, Climate Change and Health, and other domains. HSPSD also hosts three Health and Demographic Surveillance Systems (HDSS) – Matlab HDSS, Chakaria HDSS and Urban HDSS.

Position Description:
The Medical Officer will report to the Scientist and will be responsible for providing health services at community-based village health posts (VHP), developing strategy and generating ideas for improving the health services to vulnerable populations due to climate change in coastal areas through VHPs, training the project staff to maintain project activities with the objective of attaining the project motto within the organizational guidelines and study objectives of the Research Group.

  • Providing primary health care services, especially climate change-related infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases and Providing technical assistance to the VHP-committee and identifying appropriate health services for the community ensuring the quality of services;
  • Maintain the quality of health education messages delivered to the community volunteers and also to the community; Monitor the project-related activities and staff in order to fulfil the study objectives;
  • Provide training to project staff on health-related issues and work with them to maintain the quality of project activities;
  • Liaison and coordinate with GoB and other partner agencies involved in the project implementation in order to share experience(s) and learning with the team members.
  • Coordinate with the Dhaka team and troubleshoot challenges in the field;
  • Encourage team members to collaborate across areas; Address and resolve any diversity-related issues; Set goals and conduct appraisals for the team; Set high standards and confront poor performance where needed;
  • Coordinate with collaborators of the field projects running in Chakaria HDSS;
  • Maintain good communication and liaison with the community;
  • Oversee the activities of the HDSS in Chakaria.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with one year of completed internship training with a valid BMDC registration;
  • Additional MPH degree desired;
  • 3-5 years of experience in public health research projects;
  • Very good knowledge of Clinical Diagnosis and Management of patients, Patient Care and Satisfaction;
  • Genuine interest in Public Health research;
  • Good communications skills.

Location: Chakaria

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Fixed Term contract; duration will be 2 Years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Annual Tk. 15,31,970/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
