Program Overview for Energy

The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India’s transition to cleaner energy. The program focuses on three inter-related aspects of this energy transition: enhancing energy access, scaling renewables among specific consumer categories, and achieving higher levels of energy and buildings efficiency. Our energy access work is specifically aimed at ensuring access to affordable and clean energy so as to improve socio-economic development in rural and remote regions of India. Through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work, we seek to achieve impact at scale.

About the Role

The Energy Access team at WRI India is seeking a coordinator for its Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) to support donor MEL reporting. You will work closely with the MEL lead, project leads as well as the project teams to streamline MIS and data processes.

A key part of the role is to support coordination of MEL activities for grants across India and East Africa. This role plays a pivotal part in the team towards understanding commitments of the team towards grants as well as the teams internal strategy towards measuring impact. This will also include learning from peer organizations, trainings and disseminating knowledge, to build a broad cohort of expertise across the Program.

A key part of the role is to facilitate continuous learning within the ongoing work of the Energy Access programme to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation frameworks and approaches are adopted to understand the outcomes and impacts of our work, and that there are iterative feedback loops to incorporate learning into the program’s strategy.

In addition to coordination for the program, you will also work directly with the project team to support integration of PMEL into projects, with the aim of improving the robustness of our research, and assessing how our efforts are achieving desired impact. In this role, you will also contribute to topical workshops, team retreats, and learning events.

MEL Support (70%)

  • Support MEL lead in building MEL frameworks for various projects in the programme.
  • Coordinate and support the integration of MEL into new projects and workstreams centering focus on equity and provide guidance on M&E reporting and indicators to subgrantees and partners, as needed with teams in India and East Africa
  • Support teams towards research and M&E design of various projects
  • Support team leads with data collection modules (qualitative and quantitative) and data analysis in various MEL process
  • Travel to field areas to manage and lead research activities on ground with teams/ partner organisation within India only.
  • Support in developing capacity building initiatives with implementing partners
  • Ensure lessons learned through PMEL are captured and shared to advance the application of best practices throughout the team.

Research Coordination (30%)

  • Coordinate with institutional human subject review boards for approval of research tools.
  • Coordinate research proposals and ideas on energy access and transitions for all MEL activities.
  • Apply multi-disciplinary approaches with current and future research needs for MEL.
  • Coordinate with teams for research planning, implementation and activities of MEL processes and systems
  • Coordinate communication products such as blogs, articles, events and podcasts based on research products.
  • Conduct and support data collection, data analysis and present analysis to relevant internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications and requirements we seek:

  • Four to six years of relevant, full-time work experience with demonstrated involvement in program design and monitoring, evaluation and learning, project management and strategy development.
  • Master’s degree in public policy, evaluation and applied research methods, social sciences, economics, political science, environmental studies, or related field. PhD would be added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams in various geographical locations, cultural contexts and time zones.
  • Experience in using data analysis tools like Excel, SPSS, AtlasTI, Nvivo etc is necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English. Proficiency in one or more vernacular languages.
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team. Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple assignments at one time.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Theory of Change (TOC) and it’s development.
  • Familiarity with PowerBI, Miro Boards, Asana and Dev Results.
  • Sector-specific knowledge and experience related to energy access, community focussed interventions, energy systems and action research.
  • Extensive experience utilizing good practices in identifying the rationale for the research methodology, developing protocols and safeguards for data collection and management, communicating results transparently, etc.

Salary & Benefits: INR 800000 to INR 900000 CTC Per Annum

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year as term hire (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
