This position is located within the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS). The Movement Control Assistant will be based in Juba, South Sudan. The Movement Control Assistant reports to the Movement Control Officer in the Office of the Chief Supply Chain Management Service.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Movement Control Assistant will carry out the following duties:
• Supervises the receiving and shipping of cargo to ensure that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
• Coordinates the inbound activities for freight into the mission in accordance with mission supply chain plan with Vendor, Procurement and Centralized Warehouse.
• Monitoring and ensuring delivery of cargo and communicating shipping details to all concerned parties.
• Update Inbound Delivery Coordination related data in UMOJA ECC and in Track and Trace Transportation Management Module.
• Contacts vendor to confirm delivery status, reviews shipment documents to secure that goods are delivered according to the agreed terms and conditions on the Purchase Order.
• Ensures that paperwork is correct and the items in POs are reflected correctly.
• Ensures that goods are transported in accordance with transportation and load plans.
• Ensures that information regarding incoming cargo is coordinated to the respective Sections and/or delivered in accordance with the delivery notice.
• Coordinates with Movcon liaison personnel in Entebbe and Mombasa.
• Compiles manifests.
• Provides flight schedules, route and timing information.
• Ensures that dangerous goods are transported in accordance with the applicable international Dangerous Goods Regulations.
• Monitors the movement of cargo, records and maintains all relevant details related thereto.
• Records passenger and cargo statistics.
• Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and budgets related to movements and in the verification and processing of movement related invoices.
• Maintains a database of all Inbound Shipments.
• Ensure all MOVCON MHE are serviceable in all stations and maintain database of the same.
• Tracks and traces all deliveries and updates Umoja ECC Inbound Delivery Documents with necessary information and shipment documents.
• Analyze issues, which may delay or disturb the delivery of goods and seek for remedial solutions with all parties concerned.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school or equivalent diploma is required. Technical or vocational certificate in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field is required.
Experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) – or similar international organization or non-governmental organization in a field-based environment is required.
Experience in the use of IATA and/or IMO rules and procedures for the transportation of dangerous goods is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position advertised, fluency in English is required.
