Position Overview:
The TB/MDR-TB Physician Assistant is responsible for organizing, managing, implementing, and delivering high-quality, compassionate, and equitable health care to patients with drug-sensitive TB and MDR-TB in Maryland County. This position will be filled by a PA who has strong clinical and managerial skills. This clinician will assist in overseeing the daily operations of the MDR-TB inpatient ward at JJ Dossen Hospital as well as MDR-TB and drug-sensitive TB outpatients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Attend daily ward rounds on the MDR-TB Ward at JJ Dossen Hospital
· Provide clinical care at the drug-sensitive TB and MDR-TB outpatient clinic at JJ Dossen
· Provide mentorship for clinicians who provide inpatient and outpatient care for MDR-TB patients.
· Plan discharge with PIH Social Protection Officer and Community Health Program to ensure that arrangements are made with patient family members for smooth transition of welcoming of patient home
· Work closely with JJ Dossen and Pleebo Health Center’s TB focal point person to ensure all TB suspects are tested with GeneXpert and started on appropriate treatment
· Assist in the scheduling of follow up outpatient visits (clinic or home visits) with patients who have MDR-TB in Maryland County
· Ensure good pharmacovigilance is observed/followed by encouraging providers to fill out Serious Adverse Events form
· Work in collaboration with county TB/HIV focal points to discuss and manage co-infected cases
· Work with Community Health Program and CHWs to ensure every MDR-TB and drug-sensitive TB patient has been offered a CHW and social assistance package
· Ensure MDR-TB patients who have defaulted or loss to follow are re-enrolled into clinical care
· Assist the JJD laboratory with optimizing the use of GeneXpert
· Assist in the planning and operations of the sputum transport network for MDR-TB specimens in Maryland County
· Ensure good practice for infection control
· Notify PIH Infrastructure mechanical and medical engineer when medical and laboratory equipment are broken
Qualifications:
  • Physician Assistant or equivalent degree required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous work experience in low-resource setting
  • Personnel management and teaching experience is recommended
  • Ability to mentor and manage individuals with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong written and spoken English skills and ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Work experience in resource-limited settings and/or rural areas
  • Ability to live in Liberia full-time required
