Duties and Responsibilities

This consultancy is located in the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and will be based remotely. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergen
cies.

SCB is OCHA’s communications and public advocacy team supporting headquarters and field operations in public outreach on humanitarian action. The Branch oversees senior leadership public advocacy and media, including messaging, speeches, campaigns, and social media.

The consultant reports to the Chief of the Public Advocacy and Campaigns Unit in The Hague.

– Support photo content management and production
– Manage the transition from Smugmug to a new Data Asset Management System (DAMS) for OCHA’s photo library, and the implementation of the new platform
– Ensure all visuals assets being migrated to the new system contain required metadata
– Provide training and support to OCHA’s SCB and colleagues in country and regional offices on best practices using the new database
– Conceive and produce multimedia concepts and narratives to raise awareness on humanitarian crises and needs, and support OCHA’s role and advocacy priorities
– Support in coordinating and prioritizing the photo and multimedia output of the Strategic Communications Branch within OCHA’s broader communication plans and objectives
– Support Media Relations colleagues with requests from media outlets for footage and/or photos
– Oversee, steer and monitor the work and deliverables of independent photographers and consultants commissioned by SCB
– Provide ongoing support to field colleagues in their photo and multimedia production
– Collaborate with team members on ways to improve assets visibility on and off-line.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree, master or equivalent, in communication, media and communication, video production, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience and a proven track record as a communications and advocacy specialist, journalist, PR or spokesperson, or a combination of the above is required.
Experience developing quality photo and multimedia content is required.
Expert knowledge of photo and multimedia production and software is required.
Experience in video editing are desirable.

Languages

For this vacancy, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
