Position Overview and General Responsibilities:
The Multimedia Officer is an integral member of the global marketing team who broadens and deepens support for Partners In Health by celebrating the organization’s unique mission and values, showcasing its pioneering accomplishments, and promoting its valuable brand and overall visual presentation. S/he is responsible for creating, producing, and editing videos/photos for internal and external purposes.
As videos and other multimedia storytelling have become one of the most effective ways of communicating the organization’s brand and messaging on online platforms, this role is a critical member of PIH Liberia communications team. With a focus on mobile and social media platforms, the Multimedia Officer will manage multiple projects at a time, ranging from high-quality, complex video projects to fast turn-around, social media videos, and create a regular flow of still photography for PIH Liberia with the help of PIH’s global comms team.
The Multimedia Officer is also responsible for producing high-quality marketing and communication materials for digital experiences, such as websites, social media, email, PowerPoints, infographics, and other visual platforms; with priority given to digital communication, marketing, and fundraising efforts. In keeping with the global PIH designer’s standard, s/he is also responsible for establishing the quality of visual communication, designing and managing projects for digital platforms, including ads, web and social media content, email graphics, and PowerPoint presentations, etc.
Primary Responsibilities:
Global Communications (40%)
In collaboration with the PIH Global Marketing-Communications Team and PIH Liberia Executive Leadership Team:
- Ensure consistency of brand, messaging, and presentation
- Design and manage projects for digital platforms, including ads, web and social media content, email graphics, and PowerPoint presentations;
- [Website] Work with PIH Liberia and the global communications team to keep the website updated and active;
- [Illustrations] Create original illustrations to contribute to a growing internal icon library;
- [Infographics] Create easy-to-digest infographics, graphs, and charts for both academic and general audiences;
- [Accessibility] Work to ensure the text and visual graphics are legible and accessible;
- [Post-production] Ensure the delivery of the final product and its amplification on appropriate channels. As well as tracking its performance and debriefing for wins and opportunities for improvements;
- [Collaboration] Work closely with the communications lead, communications specialist, and communications officer as well as members of the management team to create high-quality deliverables that are on deadline, on budget, and meet goals set;
- [Global Creatives] Collaborate and brainstorm for creative and innovative solutions with the global creative team;
- Work with PIH’s Director of Creative and other marketing and communications colleagues (graphic design, editorial, web) to experiment with styles and techniques, including the design of graphic elements
- [Systems] Maintain and improve systems for designers’ production workflow such as OneDrive, Canto, Asana, SharePoint, Adobe;
- [Training] Provide training to members of the PIH Liberia team as needed;
PIH Liberia Strategic Communications (60%)
In collaboration with the PIH Liberia Executive Leadership Team:
- Responsible for editing a full range of video projects, across platforms
- Work closely with the digital marketing specialist and communications team to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Receive briefs, and collaborate on video storylines, shot lists, scripts, and treatments
- Film and/or photograph stories or programs on location, wherever PIH and partners have a presence.
- Ensure that proper consent has been requested, confirmed, and recorded according to PIH policies.
- Record detailed caption information for all materials created. Embed photo captions directly through Photo Mechanic or equivalent software.
- Create graphic elements such as transitions, lower thirds, and animations.
- Assist in managing and overseeing all technical aspects of video archival and editing (Merlin Digital Asset Manager for photography and Adobe Prelude for video)
- Assemble, organize, and backup all raw footage and photos; ingest necessary footage into Merlin/DMS and train colleagues on the system as needed.
- Create and maintain audio sound bank for footage.
- Create and present rough edits to necessary project stakeholders.
- Work with PIH’s comms team to ensure the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing.
- Provide writing, design, and photographic support for strategic communications documents for external audiences, allowing for effective donor stewardship and partner engagement.
- Assist in managing and maintaining hard drives containing all communications materials, including up-to-date photographs, patient information, and success stories.
- Create and edit visually-compelling PowerPoint presentations for internal and external use.
- Provide content development support for PIH “Impact Initiative” case studies in key program areas, including written narratives and photographs.
- Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to design infographics and maps to highlight data-driven stories.
- Support in the production of communications content to enable effective donor stewardship and engagement.
- Support in the creation of donor reports on active grants as required.
Qualifications: The key competencies required for the position of Multimedia Officer:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or diploma in graphic design, marketing, communications, and related field; Master’s degree preferred with 3 years of relevant experience, preferably with multimedia and digital content generation, strategy, branding, marketing and communications, storytelling, and/or public relations.
- Proven design skills in digital designs;
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically including Illustrator and Photoshop;
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs, specifically Word, and PowerPoint;
- Proficiency with user experience-focused design and user interface-design programs such as Figma or Adobe XD;
- Illustration and infographic experience a plus;
- Knowledge/interest in global health a plus;
- Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries;
- Excellent photographic abilities, including familiarity with Canon DSLR camera systems;
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; French, a plus;
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office365 programs, exceptional PowerPoint skills;
- Demonstrated eye for graphic design (proficiency with Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign a plus);
- Collaborative spirit, and openness to work across departments, countries, and cultures;
- Demonstrated experience managing, and meeting, multiple deadlines;
- Willingness to live and work in a rural, resource-limited setting;
- Proficiency in the local vernaculars (Grebo and Kru) a plus;
- Passion for PIH’s mission and interest in global health equity and social justice.
