Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communications unit , the consultant will oversee the creation of engaging visual content promoting WUF and UN-Habitat, including events, encompassing pre-production planning, on-site production, and post-production editing to deliver high-quality videos and multimedia assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Background, Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The World Urban Forum Coordination Office is located within the External Relations Strategy Knowledge and Innovation Division (ERSKI) of UN-Habitat. One of the Division’s key mandate is to promote strategic alliances to support achievement of the goals of adequate shelter for all, and sustainable urbanization and human settlements development. The World Urban Forum (WUF) is a non-legislative technical forum convened by the UN-Habitat biannually since 2002. The forum gathers a wide range of experts from every walk of life. Participants of the forum include but are not limited to national, regional and local governments, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, professional, research institutions and academia, professional, private sector, development finance institutions, foundations, media, United Nations organizations and other international agencies. The WUF is recognized as the foremost global arena for interaction among policymakers, local government leaders, non-governmental organizations and expert practitioners in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements. The WUF has been identified as a key platform to support implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) adopted at the Habitat III conference. The WUF provides opportunities for stakeholder organizations of all kinds to come together to share the latest in innovative advances in sustainable urban development and projects showcasing the implementation of the NUA. Objective of the Consultancy The primary objective of this consultancy is to oversee and execute the production of engaging multimedia content for the World Urban Forum. This includes pre-production planning, on-site production, and post-production editing to create compelling visual narratives that highlight the impact and achievements of the WUF. The consultant will work closely with UN-Habitat communication teams and institutional partners to ensure alignment with the World Urban Forum’s project goals and messaging, ultimately aiming to enhance awareness, engagement, and understanding of WUF’s work among stakeholders and the wider audience. Through strategic storytelling and creative content development, the consultancy seeks to effectively communicate the importance and relevance of WUF’s efforts in sustainable urban development to global audiences. Responsibility Under the supervision of the Chief of communications unit, the consultant will oversee the creation of engaging visual content promoting WUF and UN-Habitat, including events, encompassing pre-production planning, on-site production, and post-production editing to deliver high-quality videos and multimedia assets. Specific assigments 1. February 2025: a. Pre-Production: i. Engage in the strategy sessions. ii. Develop visual storyboards and plan content. iii. Arrange logistics and studio for filming technical requirements. b. Production: i. Implement multi-camera setups. ii. Capture footage with actors and cast. c. Post-Production: i. Edit footage, create overview film and social media cut-downs. ii. Design animations and graphical elements. 2. March 2024: a. Pre-Production: i. Engage in event strategy sessions. ii. Develop storyboards and content. iii. Arrange logistics and technical requirements. b. Production: i. Implement multi-camera setups. ii. Capture short, impactful videos with women voices . c. Post-Production: i. Edit footage, create overview film and social media cut-downs. ii. Design animations and graphical elements.
Qualifications/special skills
Degree in multimedia production, film studies, communications, visual arts, or related field. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications is required. 9 years hands-on experience in multimedia production, with a focus on video production is required.
