JOB DETAIL

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Unitaid is a multilateral partnership hosted by the World Health Organization. Unitaid is focused on making a unique and impactful contribution to the global response against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in developing countries. It catalyses improvements for the larger response through forward-looking and time-limited investments that are designed to increase access to better, more effective and more affordable health products(i.e. preventatives, medicines and diagnostics). These investments typically target market-based interventions such as price reductions, improvements in quality and supply, and the introduction of innovative products more suitable for the populations in need.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Analyze key health policy events in the international development and global health arena for Unitaid to engage and ensure a high-level representation from Unitaid in strategic events and high-level platforms;
  • Coordination of a political and technical proposal for Unitaid to engage with the potential new donors (sovereign, foundations and others), notably with the support of Unitaid;
  • Members States and like-minded countries, and in coordination with the Executive Board and the Executive Office;
  • Liaise with external partners with a view to position Unitaid on the global health agenda and develop long standing partnerships with key stakeholders, including through the elaboration of formal frameworks for collaboration;
  • Prepare concept notes and briefing notes to engage with a wide range of partners and donors, as well as talking points and supporting documents for senior management including the Executive Director;
  • Acquire and analyze information and perspectives from government officials and institutional counterparts on operational matters creating relationships of trust and understanding that under pin effective coordination and collaboration;
  • Prepare relevant reports for Unitaid Board Meeting and relevant subcommittees, as well as strategic documents related to Unitaid’s ERC strategy and Resource Mobilization plan;
  • Contribute to the implementation of resource mobilization strategy and ensure partnerships focused activities are implemented in close relation with other workstreams, especially on Governance and Communications;
  • Note: The essential functions listed in this section are not limited only to the tasks listed and will include other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: An advanced level university degree in social sciences, economics, health, international relations, diplomacy, business or related fields.
Desirable: Health and development education background an asset.

Experience

Essential:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in advocacy, resource mobilization, diplomacy, strategy and policy development in public health or international development;
  • Experience in partnership management at senior level;
  • Extensive experience in the development field and global health;
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple high-level relationships, including political and governmental;
  • Experience engaging with on Boards of public health or international development organizations.

Desirable:

  • Experience in health projects in at least one of Unitaid`s programmatic priorities;
  • Experience working in an international cross-cultural environment;
  • Experience working in private sector in the health sector;
  • Experience in complex grant management;
  •  Familiarity with Global Health work.

Skills

  • Exceptional hands-on project management style and the ability to address and resolve issues efficiently and deliver results;
  • High level influencing and negotiating skills, and the capacity to build effective relationships with some of Unitaid’s key funders in a complex partnership environment;
  • Flexibility and ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Superior relationships management, excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and attention to details;
  • Excellent judgment and rigorous analytical skills;
  • Strong writing and communication skills;

  • A successful track record of working with complex and sensitive issues and interacting with high level government officials, Corporate Executive Directors and intergovernmental bodies; and global health donors; and Experience in developing country settings.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5297 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
