Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) is responsible for leading FAO’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO’s priority activities in the region. It oversees the network of Country Offices and the Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands (SAP). It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region, and, in collaboration with Divisions, Offices and Centres at headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO’s strategic response to regional priorities and the implementation of the Organization’s strategies through programmes and projects across the region.

The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific supports the formulation and implementation of the Country Programmes and Projects, including Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs), and their contribution to the FAO Strategic Framework and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) at the country level, advising Decentralized Offices on corporate priorities such as the Strategic Framework and on the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization’s Programme of Work and Budget.

The post is located in the Regional Office for Asia-Pacific (RAP) in Bangkok, Thailand under RAP Animal Health and Production Module (UNJP/RAS/399/EC).

Reporting Lines

The National Administrative Support Assistant reports directly to the Animal production and health Officer and undertakes daily activities in close consultation with the Programme Assistant under the Working together to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR) project (UNJP/RAS/399/EC).

He/she acts independently in routine matters. Supervision received is focused on the quality of the work performed and provides for on-the-job learning.

Technical focus

The National Administrative Support Assistant will support the project on hiring, procurement, travel arrangement, organize a workshop and regional event, and any other duties as required.

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Process, format and proof-read reports, documents, publications and correspondence related to the work of the unit from draft texts;
•    Review and direct correspondence, calls and queries to appropriate contacts; provide for background information; respond to routine enquiries;
•    Make arrangements for meetings, seminars and events: implement logistics, prepare correspondence, compile and distribute documents, make administrative arrangements;
•    Initiate and follow up on administrative and financial actions related to staff management, non-staff support, travel, payments, and procurement;
•    Perform other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

•    Secondary School Education
•    1 year of relevant experience in administrative support work
•    Full proficiency/Working knowledge of English
•    National of Thailand or resident in the country with a valid work permit.
