UNICEF Janakpur is the field office of NCO having a heavy program presence with the largest number of staff. Field staffs are performing as the frontline representatives of UNICEF working diligently to advance UNICEF’s goals and missions while engaging with various tiers of the government of Nepal. Field office staff are from diverse backgrounds and have varied experience in terms of skill sets and number of years working with UNICEF. The organization’s strength lies in its skilled and resolute personnel, who play a vital role in driving its operations and ensuring the achievements of results. Managerial skills, often referred to as soft skills, are the foundation for both programmatic and operations functions which leads UNICEF towards effectiveness and success. The soft skills have been included in the retreat aimed at bridging the capacity gap and enhancing the capacities of staff members associated with UNICEF competency and technical skills.
Fostering a positive workplace culture has always been the key priority of the organization. Staff are facing different challenges internally and externally during the course of discharge of their responsibilities. The retreat offers an opportunity to reinforce staff well-being and advance constructive collaboration among staff members. Spirituality and mental wellbeing are interconnected as spirituality nurtures a sense of own-self, inner strength, peace and hope which is important to enhance the coping mechanism during stressful times, reduce anxiety and provide peace of mind. Physical and mental wellbeing helps to transform the learning into action. The wellbeing session holds significance in installing trust within the team and towards UNICEF goal in broader terms.

Scope of Work:
Under the supervision of Chief of Field office, the consultant/facilitator will lead on design and delivery of the session.
Note: It is expected that the facilitator has the expertise and capacity to individually and solely execute this assignment. However, if the facilitator considers it more effective to invite a co-facilitator with specific skill to support, this should be reflected in the proposal and the profile of the team member should be submitted. The consultant/facilitator is responsible for.
• Design the contents and effective methodology of delivering the sessions.
• Finalization the content and retreat schedule in close consultation and coordination with retreat preparation team
• Facilitate the sessions using techniques that make it very interesting, practical and participatory (in English and local language), and positive looking.
• Submit the retreat report that covers all activities, group/team tasks, objectives of sessions, highlights results, and recommendations for the office. Report should include pictures of peak moments.
Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
The objective of the session is to build capacity of staff in various management areas, including developing leadership capacity through transferring the soft skills and cultivating the workplace culture through staff wellbeing. The expected results include:
• Equip staff with soft skills tools related to leadership, motivation techniques and quality decision making.
• Provide knowledge and tools for workplace conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation technique.
• Transfer techniques of mindfulness and self-awareness to the participants.
• Promote positive workplace culture through cultivating technical skills and mindfulness.
• Enhance teamwork and collaboration.
Contract Duration: Total 9 working days over the period of 6 June to 15 June 2024.
Deliverables for this assignment:

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Masters in Management or related disciplines.
  •  More than 5 years of experience in designing agenda/modules and facilitation of group events such as retreat, conferences, seminars etc in a formal organization at national and international level.
    • Prior experience with the UN system or international development/humanitarian agencies is required.
    • Capacity on interactive learning methodology.
    • Excellent hands-on Experience of delivering the sessions using innovative and trendy different methods such as role play, games, brainstorming, mind-exploration etc.
Additional knowledge/Experience/Skills required:
• More than 5 years of experience in delivery of Art of Living/Vipassana/Jiwan Bigyan teaching.
• Experienced in facilitation of meditation sessions.
• Deliver the session without confining to certain religious ideology/beliefs

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
