Context

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

IOM works with private sector actors on a broad range of IOM activities, including humanitarian assistance, health, labour migration and counter-trafficking. IOM’s interaction with the private sector is multifaceted; the Organization has received technological, financial, human resources and other support from the private sector to save and improve the lives of those that are most affected by conflicts or natural disasters, or those suffering from lack of opportunity. In addition, IOM partners with companies and foundations to help enhance its operational and strategic performance as well as to gather data and advocate regarding migration issues.

 

Under the direct supervision of the COM and in close coordination with the Private Sector Partnerships Unit at HQ, the National Partnership Engagement Officer will assist COM to develop partnerships with the private sector stakeholders and actors to raise funds, foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration

  • Assist in implementation of the action plan for private sector engagement in China.
  • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships that can advance the organization’s objectives, enhance its capabilities, and expand its reach within the private sector.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and private sector entities, ensuring clear and effective communication of our mission, values, and initiatives.
  • Work to secure financial support from private sector partners, including sponsorships, donations, and in-kind contributions.
  • Plan and execute events, such as conferences, workshops, and networking sessions, that bring together private sector stakeholders and promote collaboration.
  • Conduct research and analysis to understand private sector trends, identify opportunities for engagement, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of private sector engagement activities, providing regular reports and recommendations to senior management.
  • In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop and implement initiatives that deliver IOM thematic expertise to the business community in China through tools, training, and guidance.
  • Support private sector engagement efforts in China by liaising with private sector focal points in the Region and support coordination with HQ.
  • Perform any other duty relevant for the functions associated with this post.
Education
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience
  • No less than 4 years of professional experience including 2 years of experience in private sector engagement, partnership development, or a similar role.
  • Good understanding of private sector priorities and gained experience in developing partnerships and fundraising with the private sector;
  • Experienced fundraiser with an in-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, philanthropy and UN agencies.
Skills
  • Strong liaison, coordination and partnership building skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strategic thinking
  • Ability to write, draft, and edit, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence when letters, proposals, grants, appeals and ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the Organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner
Languages
  • Required: Fluency in English
  • Desirable:  Working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage
