Location: Metro Manila, Philippines
Full/Part time: Full-Time
Fixed term/Temporary: Fixed Term
Rotational/Non Rotational: Non-Rotational
Duration: Initial 1 year (renewable subject to performance and budget availability)
The Position:
The National Programme Officer – Gender/GBV analyses and assesses relevant political, social and economic trends, guiding and facilitating the delivery of UNFPA’s programme/project related to gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Philippines, especially prevention of and response to gender-based violence. You will closely collaborate with other units of the UNFPA Country Office (CO) National Strategy Execution (NSE), Strategy Development and Branding (SDB), Mindanao Strategy Execution (MSE) and Operations Support (OS) Teams.
You will report to the Assistant Representative, under the overall direction and supervision of the UNFPA Country Representative.
How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to “build forward better”, while addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women’s and girls’ access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, recover lost gains and realize our goals.
In the Philippines, UNFPA has developed its new five-year 9th Country Programme 2024-2028. The 9th CP is tightly aligned with the mid- and long-term development goals of the Philippines and Ambisyon Natin 2040, as well as the global Agenda 2030 including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction. UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
Job Purpose:
Working within a complex development context, you as Programme Officer will support the effective management of UNFPA activities to advance gender equality and eradicate GBV, and mainstream gender in other UNFPA priority areas including population and development, sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth empowerment, and humanitarian action. Through substantive analysis and assessment of political, social and economic trends as well as data collection and evidence generation, you will contribute to project formulation, implementation, monitoring, results reporting, policy advocacy, and alliance building.
