The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) envision a more equitable world where trees in all landscapes, from drylands to the humid tropics, enhance the environment and well-being for all. CIFOR and ICRAF are non-profit science institutions that build and apply evidence to today’s most pressing challenges, including energy insecurity and the climate and biodiversity crises. Over a combined total of 65 years, we have built vast knowledge on forests and trees outside of forests in agricultural landscapes (agroforestry). Using a multidisciplinary approach, we seek to improve lives and to protect and restore ecosystems. Our work focuses on innovative research, partnering for impact, and engaging with stakeholders on policies and practices to benefit people and the planet. Founded in 1993 and 1978, CIFOR and ICRAF are members of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food secure future dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, and improving natural resources.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Green Growth Planning and Policy Specialist/Research Group 2 Leader, the NRM Tool Development Assistant will work to facilitate a team of ecologists, land use planning specialists, economists, modelers, and social scientists to improve and further develop specific modules and user interface of LUMENS, M&E, and other related tools. He/she will assist NRM Tool Programmer to build, test, and document the process of tools development, under close collaboration with relevant scientists and other potential users. NRM Tool Development Assistant also facilitates the application of the tools using appropriate data and information in project sites.
To Support further improve LUMENS by facilitating the programmer in developing the algorithm and computer program for specific modules within LUMENS. This will include but not be limited to: Provide feedback on refining automated report generation routines for fire-risk and commodity suitability modeling sub-modules and integrate the sub-modules into LUMENS’ module. Support in documenting analytical study to assess the performance of machine learning approaches (i.e., Maxent, CNN, and Random Forest) in modeling land-based commodity suitability and wildfire risk. Assist the developer in building post-processing frameworks for LUMENS components: QUES-B, SCIENDO sub-modules (fire-risk and commodity suitability modeling). Facilitate the developer and scientists in the development of peat emission, food, and vulnerability tools, testing, and dissemination in several activities. This will include but not be limited to: Assist with the development of business requirement document (BRD). Provide notes in the test and finalize the tools by using various available data.
