The Maternal Child Nutrition program under the Nutrition Research Division conducts research with multiple collaborators to assess the causes of malnutrition among children, adolescents, and women and develop innovative interventions to prevent and treat these conditions and evaluate the efficacy, feasibility and scalability of new interventions.
Position Description:
The Nurse will report to the Gastroenterologist and will be responsible to assist the Gastroenterologists during endoscopic procedures (upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy) including collection of biopsy samples and data entry within the guidelines of the research protocols and organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibilities include:
- Assisting Gastroenterologists in collecting duodenal/jejunal aspirates and biopsies during upper GI endoscopic procedures, handling instruments, operating suction devices, and managing specimens;
- Monitor the patient’s vital signs and sedation levels throughout the procedure;
- Maintain a sterile environment by following strict infection control protocols and ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials;
- Regularly check and maintain endoscopic equipment to ensure it’s functioning properly and safely;
- Educate patients and their families about the endoscopy procedure, including pre-procedure instructions, risks, and post-procedure care; collect and review patient’s medical history, allergies, and current medications; and ensure consent from the patient;
- Work closely with gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and research team members to provide comprehensive patient care;
- Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and continue learning to stay updated on best practices and new technologies;
- Maintain inventory of supplies and reorder as necessary;
Required qualifications and experience:
- Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery/BSc in Nursing/ with valid registration from the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC);
- At least 5 years of working experience in assisting Gastroenterologists during endoscopic procedures (upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy) including collection of biopsy samples;
- Experience in assisting Gastroenterologists in collecting duodenal/jejunal aspirates;
- Preference will be given to those with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
- Preference will be given who have worked with a gastroenterologist in a hospital setting, administered sedatives under the instruction of a gastroenterologist;
- Experience in critical care, surgical nursing, or emergency room nursing will get preference.
Location: Dhaka
Contract Type and duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 45,593/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and day-care facilities are subject to space availability.
