This post is located within the Medical Unit of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The post is located in Tunis, Tunisia . The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities
Within the limit of the delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible of the following tasks: • Takes part in the day-to-day clinical activities of Medical Unit. This includes performing medical briefings for incoming staff, checking vital signs, performing diagnostic test such as ECG, rapid tests, assisting and liaising with the clients for the arrangement of appointments and medical procedures at the local medical facilities. • Offers nursing consultations and assists the Physician in consultations and emergency response where appropriate. This includes conducting triage and managing the care of injured/sick persons in any location following accident, natural disaster, or attack; and coordinating medical evacuation in cooperation with UNSMIL HQ Medical Unit and advising evacuees/escorts on the requirements for evacuation. • Visiting hospital as and when required to monitor admitted UNSMIL personnel. • Assists in arrangements for repatriation of human remains to their home countries. • Takes part in the roster of medical personnel offering emergency services out of the working hours. • Is responsible for maintenance of medical records and monthly medical reports for all Mission staff. • Is responsible for filing of medical records and maintaining confidentiality and timely recording in the online medical data base. • Reviews immunization status of staff and offers advice on vaccinations. • Assists in the travel medical clearance and provide the briefing on travel medicine as well as Malaria Prophylaxis as required. • Is responsible for the dispensing of drugs prescribed by the Doctor, where the right to dispense drugs has been delegated to the Nurse in writing. • Is responsible for the general maintenance of medical equipment. • Stock management of drugs, vaccines, and medical consumables and request the replenishment of drugs, consumables, and others as required from UNSMIL HQ Medical Unit. • Provide the first aid training to the staff members in Tunis along with Medical Doctor and participate in the health awareness campaign by the coordination with UNSMIL HQ Medical Unit. • Performs other duties as required by the CMO.

Education
Completion of high school and further formal education/training in nursing such as registered Professional Nurse designation or equivalent is required. Knowledge of operating anesthesia machine, mechanical ventilator, patient monitor, defibrillator, Pulse oximeter, 12-lead ECG, glucometer, sterilizer, and centrifuge is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Certification and registration to practice Nursing in his/her own country is required. Certification of Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent is desirable. Certification of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent is desirable. Efficient computer skill in emails, MS-Word, MS-Excel, and online medical data base is required. Drafting memo/letters/documents in English is desirable.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of progressive clinical experience in general nursing is required. At least 2 years of experience in intensive care unit and/or emergency room is required. Experience in health administration is desirable. Experience of working in a United Nations common system field operation or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and French is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
