Position Overview
The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (the Global Partnership) is a fast-growing, dynamic international network bringing together over 700 different organizations including governments, UN agencies, private companies, civil society organizations, and many others. We leverage the power of data to change minds, policies, and lives for the better. Our aim is to ensure that data can be put to good use to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
This position uniquely combines interests and experience of international relations, public policy, journalism, communications and public relations – all for the purpose of strengthening the Global Partnership.
Working with the Senior Director of External Relations and other communications team members, the Digital Communications Officer will help develop, deliver and maintain the Global Partnership’ s communications plans to promote the organization’s ongoing work and strategic positioning. The Digital Communications Officer will also coordinate and interface with other divisions of the Foundation during public events.
The Digital Communications Officer plays a critical role in meeting strategic communications goals through digital content production, events, and outreach, working closely with the entire Global Partnership team and the broader UN Foundation Public Affairs team.

Essential Functions
Content creation and delivery
- Develop ideas for, create and implement creative multimedia assets (e.g. audiograms, social videos and animations) to elevate existing communications outputs such as social media and digital reports.
- Maintain the Data4SDGs website as the day-to-day content administrator and liaison to the web development team for web testing and improvements, including creation of new content types, together with communications team members. This includes working with other teams on the content for Global Partnership program such as Data for Now, Collaborative for Administrative Data and the Inclusive Data Charter.
- Lead the creation of and act as an in-house designer of social media content for web, social media, publications, events and other communications materials, based on the overall strategy set by the communications team.
- Provide writing and copyediting support for blogs, including assisting with ghostwriting and writing blog posts.
- Produce the monthly Data4SDGs newsletter.
- Track, report on and analyze digital engagement metrics monthly, sharing findings and insights from social media, newsletter, and web analytics to draw conclusions on key findings and conceptualize data driven strategies to boost engagement.
Social media
- Support the management, of the Global Partnership’s digital presence across social media (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn), including copywriting, content production and audience engagement, with guidance from the Senior Director of External Relations and other communications team members.
- Working with and providing guidance to the Digital Associate to produce, maintain and activate a consistent social media calendar highlighting work of the Global Partnership and wider Data4SDGs network.
- Execute paid social media ad campaigns across Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook to maximize reach and engagement with audiences outside of our immediate digital networks.
Branded production, publications, and multimedia
- Support the delivery of externally produced publications, data visualizations and multimedia storytelling products (such as StoryMaps which can be found on the data4sdgs.org website) working with the team to source, commission, and curate data and content.
- Lead the production of in-house designed Global Partnership Secretariat-authored publications.
- Act as focal point for commissioning preferred vendors such as proofers, translators, graphic designers, and managing internal deadlines within the team.
- Commission preferred vendors to deliver translation of core products.
- Act as the guardian and advisor for the Global Partnership’s brand and sub-brand visual identities (i.e., Festival de Datos, Data Values Project), producing branded assets and templates and ensuring consistency across visual outputs.
Events
- Support project management and help produce convenings with a substantial communications aspect such as Global Partnership hosted or co-hosted events, press fellowships, press breakfasts, webinars, and workshops.
- Produce and coordinate content and collateral for event purposes, including externally managed event and fulfilling event printing needs.
Institutional
- Build and maintain strong links with UN Foundation Public Affairs and events team staff.
- Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly. (As applicable to the role)
- Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
- Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
- Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, communications, journalism, or international affairs.
- At least 4 years of related professional experience.
- Strong creative and design skills with the ability to translate an idea to several formats, channels and platforms.
- Experience using Drupal, Buffer, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Descript, Audiogram (or equivalents).
- Experience managing social media channels, and producing and managing content calendars.
- Excellent writing, editing and communications skills, with a strong interest in visual design and what makes a good website for experts and the general public.
- Self-starter able to manage multiple media production projects, including managing budgets with external vendors.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for data for social good and data science and the ability to translate this into simple infographics, and social media.
- Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
- Team player, problem solver, and relationship-builder.
- Highly organized, delivers results in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness for occasional domestic and international travel.
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
