Position Overview
The UN Foundation is seeking to hire an Officer, Graphic Design who can help us continue to challenge mundane creative thinking and create purposeful design that grows the Foundation’s visibility and influence. The Officer, Graphic Design will have an excellent eye for composition and interest in creating bold design with an experimental visual aesthetic; can create (or direct) attention-grabbing imagery and understand when attention to details and polish are needed. This will be a hybrid role (based in Washington D.C.). This position will report to the Creative Director, Public Affairs.
This position is based in Washington, DC (Hybrid schedule).
Essential Functions
The Officer, Graphic Design should be prepared to work with various individuals and teams from across the Foundation in creating design and art for a wide range of assignments including (but not limited to):
- Digital design; including marketing materials, publications, and presentations.
- Social media graphics for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
- Motion graphics for social media, web, and video.
- Photography; research, editing, and retouching.
- Web design; primarily on the Word Press platform.
- Events; graphics for in-person, virtual, and pre-recorded video events.
- Infographics; charts or other data-viz for UN Foundation’s channels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or visual communications.
- Minimum 5 years’ professional design background.
- Must be able to present a recent portfolio/website of work.
- Experience capturing photo/video is preferred.
- Prior experience with an international organization, NGO, or in the policy sector, is a plus.
- Familiarity with, and interest in the United Nations, international affairs, and the issues the Foundation focuses on is preferred.
- Interested in amplifying ideas that are sometimes hard to articulate, with the desire to remake thinking around current global issues.
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills.
- Excellent understanding of typography.
- Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and InDesign.
- Knowledge and/or prior experience with WordPress, and HTML.
- Knowledge of designing and sizing content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X, formerly Twitter.
- Outstanding communication skills and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and plan work.
- Candidates will be required to present a portfolio of recent work to be considered for the role.
- Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
