About IRRI

 

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. Job Purpose

 

Under the direction of the Healthier Rice Program Lead and in close coordination with the NARES partner, the Officer shall provide technical and logistical support for a well-coordinated implementation of strategies to deploy healthier rice varieties in the Philippines, including, but not limited to organizing meetings, preparing reports, maintaining databases of contacts and inventory of materials, and conducting internal and external engagement activities.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Project coordination and liaison:

  • Liaise with the DA-PhliRice’s Golden Rice Program Management Office for the efficient scheduling of meetings and mapping of deployment activities
  • Document meetings, consultation workshops, and other related activities
  • Assist in the development of program briefing materials and periodic reports/updates

Document and materials management and organization:

  • Maintain and update the stakeholder database and program directory
  • Assist in identifying and engaging third-party contractors, service providers, or suppliers and in monitoring the delivery of their outputs
  • Maintain an up-to-date compilation of key messages and FAQs for use in multiple formats (e.g. print, digital, audio, etc.)
  • Organize the collection of creative assets such as photographs, infographics, audio-visual files, etc.
  • Ensure the timely procurement and maintain an inventory of knowledge products and marketing collaterals to ensure that materials are up-to-date, stocks are sufficient, and stakeholders in deployment sites are provided with appropriate materials in line with engagement strategies

Provide technical assistance in the conduct of deployment activities and community engagement:

  • Develop a calendar of events and opportunities such as scientific conferences, exhibits, trade fairs, marketing, and
    similar events where healthier rice varieties may be introduced and eventually deployed
  • Provide technical and logistical support in the conduct of seminars, workshops, and other related capacity-building
    activities to empower partners and stakeholders
  • Perform due diligence and prepare stakeholder profiles to inform strategies prior to engagement
  • Ensure that program partners and stakeholders are kept up-to-date on the progress of regulatory and deployment activities through the efficient management and distribution of the e-newsletter (e.g drafting of stories, layout, subscription management, etc.) and management of official social media platforms of the Healthier Rice Program or its counterpart

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public policy, agriculture, extension, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Experience working or liaising with partners and stakeholders, preferably with national government ministries and agencies, local government, non- government organizations
  • Understanding of national government, government agencies, and
    regulatory systems and processes
  • Successful track record of implementing advocacy campaigns and creating long-term change
  • Good understanding of biotechnology, agriculture, and nutrition concepts and substantial experience packaging and disseminating communication materials through several channels
  • Excellent English and Filipino written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and reliable, attention to detail
  • Team player and highly collaborative

Preferred

  • Advanced MS Office applications skills and substantial experience using design software
  • Advanced social media experience (SEO content development), engagement, and monitoring skills
  • Communication research skills such as conducting interviews, content analysis, etc. an advantage
