Mission and objectives
For this SDG5 online campaign, we seek professionals who can share their skills regarding the prevention and reduction of gender-based violence and child exploitation. Due to drastic rates of poverty and food insecurity, there has been increase in both child marriage and domestic violence in 2024. Our campaign seeks to spread awareness of this crisis while cultivating public support to provide aid to those we serve in Zimbabwe and the virtual space.
Context
Sustainable Development Goal 5 addresses the need for a world with gender equality by 2030. Economic hardship and negative cultural norms create an environment where women and children are vulnerable targets. Girls in particular are singled out for marriage prior to the age of 18, often to alleviate the family’s financial inability to provide for them. For this SDG 5 online campaign, we seek professionals who can share their skills regarding the prevention and reduction of gender-based violence and child exploitation. Due to an increase in poverty and food insecurity, there has been increase in both child marriage and domestic violence. Our campaign seeks to spread awareness of this crisis while cultivating public support to provide aid to those in need. This assignment will also highlight Simuka Africa Youth Association (SimukaAfrica.org) and its SDG 5 efforts to provide life skills, vocational training and other educational opportunities for at risk youth. Our Girls Club and Norton Library Initiatives also offer safe spaces for female children to socialize and receive additional educational information The program further provides monthly supplies of basic food, skills training and starting capital for income generating activities for at-risk girls, young women and child marriage survivors. Our online social media campaign will highlight these efforts while informing the public regarding UN Agenda 2030 Global Sustainable Development in this area.
Task Description
The task involves developing a comprehensive online campaign that informs the public on the impact of gender-based violence, the reality of child marriage and the overall empowerment of global females. It will utilize a variety of statistical reports and collaborations with international efforts to further create a “call to action” that encourages direct public participation and donations to support our efforts. This will be in conjunction with our 34Gallery.org Initiative, which will provide Open Calls for artists to lend their creativity and voices to this call to action. Volunteers will also provide articles for the Simuka Africa Journal (SimukaAfrica.org/news) and Interludes (34Gallery.org/Interludes). Our “Empower4Her” Open Calls through our 34 Gallery Initiative will highlight the presence of international female artists while encouraging self-care and empowerment for the international female populace. As we enter 2025, we recognize that being female at this moment in history means existing on the edge of global change. What does it mean to be a girl in an increasingly technological world that simultaneously expands and limits human connection? We seek to provide a mental health art outlet and platform for global females, their struggles and their successes. At the same time, we aim to encourage the support of female artisans and projects to assist with female outreach. The online campaign will be shared on Simuka Africa Youth Association’s social media platforms. (Twitter-X, Instagram, Pinterest LinkedIn, and Facebook). Short videos/reels will also be created for The 34 Gallery YouTube channel.
