The Financial Institutions Group (FIG), one of IFC’s largest industry departments, has three main objectives: 1) financial inclusion 2) servicing the real economy and 3) mobilizing third-party resources.  To achieve these objectives, FIG invests in numerous financial subsectors and strengthens financial institutions across the region through Advisory Services (AS).  The FIG AS program in Africa (MEA) is closely coordinated with investment operations and helps financial institutions across the region to build or improve their operations across several focus areas: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (including Gender Finance and Non-Financial Services); Digital Financial Services; Risk Management; Agri-finance; Climate and Sustainable Finance; and Microfinance.

To Africa FIG Advisory is seeking to recruit an Operations Analyst to provide project management support to FIG Microfinance Practice Group advisory portfolio, particularly in the Anglophone North Africa and Horn of Africa region.

Duties and Accountabilities:

 The roles and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Perform desk research with respect to the market landscape across assigned countries in Africa; keep abreast of market intelligence and developments regionally and globally; and prepare initial reports with findings, graphs, etc.
• Support project teams to organize and manage scoping and diagnostic missions, prepare meeting minutes, and conduct mission follow-up as needed.
• Contribute to the design of projects, and the drafting and processing of project documentation in line with established IFC procedures (Concept Notes, Project Implementation Plans, Funding Requests, Legal Agreements etc.)
• Monitor project timelines, budget and key performance indicators against targets, and ensure updates are completed within the allowable timeframe.
• Support implementation of the projects and assist in the preparation of project supervision and completion reports. 
• Assist with data collection for project monitoring, ensure adequate data quality in all project documents and provide supplementary data gathering support for evaluations.
• Assist in identifying, selecting and procuring appropriate short-term consultants/firms for advisory engagements and develop TORs.
• Manage interface with finance team on timely collection of client fees in line with legal agreements and submission of invoices to ensure accurate financial reporting within a quarterly period.
• Support the management and monitoring allocation of consultant, staff time, and other project costs against available budget and charge codes; and track spend against budget on a monthly basis.
• Assist in planning, designing and organizing conferences, trainings, workshops and seminars.
• Collaborate with project teams and senior consultants to carry out specific tasks including desk reviews, data analysis, drafting reports, preparation of briefs and presentations related to advisory delivery. 
• Work in partnership with PLs and the donor relations team to prepare initial drafts of donor reports as per IFC governance.
• Work with project teams on capturing and documenting lessons learned from projects in the region, and review and add inputs to regional knowledge pieces.
• Assist with the drafting/development of templates and standardized solutions in key Practice Group technical topics. 
• Assist in other project or strategy related activities as the need may arise.

 

 

Selection Criteria

 

• Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of relevant experience in the region, preferably working in a research or analyst role with similar donor agencies/development finance institutions or in the financial sector. 
• Experience working on topics related to the financial sector as well as on market research, surveys, data analysis, etc. 
• Interest and/or commitment to social and economic development, and microfinance in particular  
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results under tight timetables; strong organizational, administrative, project and task management skills.
• A genuine commitment to development and to the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy, and values.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software particularly power point and excel including tabulating and analyzing data, and presenting effectively in graphs/charts, etc. 
• Strong written and verbal communications skills in English. Arabic is desirable. 
• Willingness to travel
