JOB PURPOSE
Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office is hiring an Operations/HR Manager for its Brussels office. This role will ensure compliance and effective day-to-day running of the Brussels office, with approximately 20 staff, and 1 staff member based in France.
This role will support staff well-being, cohesion and engagement in line with Amnesty’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion. Experience in anti-racism and feminist leadership approaches are especially welcome. We especially encourage applications from candidates who are underrepresented in International NGOs.
Reporting to the Head of Office, the Operations Manager will work alongside the Finance Manager, who together are supported by a full-time Office Assistant. Communication and coordination with colleagues in the London headquarters – on issues related to HR, Security, Legal, Workplace, IT – is a key part of the role.
ABOUT YOU
The candidate will have depth understanding of Belgian labor laws and human resource procedures with experience in leadership. You will have strong written and verbal fluency in the English language and a working level of knowledge in French/Dutch.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide clear and accurate information on Belgian labor laws, policies, and practice.
- Manage processes related to recruitment, onboarding, leavers management, employment contracts, work regulations.
- Lead on office policies and procedures to ensure that the office is a pleasant and secure place to work, and that staff are supported.
- Continually improve internal systems and policies in line with local legislation, Amnesty International policy, and other best practices.
- Manage relations with external suppliers related to office facilities and staffing, serving as main contact point.
- Communication and coordination with colleagues in the London headquarters – on issues related to HR, Security, Legal, Workplace, IT
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- In depth understanding of Belgian labor laws and human resource procedures.
- Experience in overseeing the day-to-day running a medium sized office (approximately twenty people).
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal and people skills.
- Working level knowledge of French or Dutch (including written and spoken).
