Location: Hunstanton & surrounding areas
Hours: 30 per week
Contract type: Fixed Term to end April 2025
Salary: £25,357 per annum pro rata
We’ve got an opportunity…
We are looking for an Outreach Caseworker to join us in Hunstanton to work on an exciting new pilot project between the British Red Cross, Hunstanton Foodbank and supported by the Trussell Trust. The aim of the project is to test an outreach approach, working in partnership with foodbank volunteers and local agencies can positively impact people accessing the food bank and their immediate family, by addressing unmet social needs.. A further aim is to see if we can reduce food poverty, initial foodbank usage and reliance on foodbanks or other charitable food aid support
Hunstanton and the surrounding villages have significant areas of deprivation and local employment is often associated with hospitality, which can be lower paid and seasonal. Hunstanton foodbank has strong connections to local schools where the proportion of pupils on free school meals is higher than the national average. Hunstanton Town Council has recently developed a community hub in the Town Hall with a free cafe, warm space and Fareshare food distribution point, as well as hosting the local community supermarket and various organisations including Citizens Advice, Norfolk Community Action, Shelter and Change Grow Live. The foodbank works closely within the community.
You’ll work in the community to help identify and address unmet social needs and this may include supporting people with more complex presentations including mental health, long-term conditions and potentially adverse traumatic experiences. You’ll help to lower stigma within the community and change mindsets and behaviours by building strong relationships with a variety of partners and stakeholders.
About you…
We are seeking a resilient and motivated individual who is able to demonstrate compassion, strong negotiation skills, patience and a real appetite for helping some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives, by putting in place interventions that reintegrate people into the local community, without the need to make demands on services that may not be the most appropriate to meet their needs.
Due to the specific requirements of this role, there is a need to visit various locations, some of which are remote with no access to public transport, therefore you must have access to a vehicle which you are willing and able to use in conjunction with your duties, or be eligible for transportation via the Access to Work Scheme.
What you’ll bring to the role…
Exceptionally strong ability to connect with other people – you’ll be authentic, relatable, compassionate and an excellent communicator.
You understand how the system works and how to help people falling through the gaps.
You’ve experience in person centred support planning and dynamic risk assessment.
You’re strong, resilient and courageous, with a real appetite to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Can think on your feet, with strong negotiation skills.
Meticulous record keeping skills.
Say hello to the team…
