Title of assignment: Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Trainer

Expected places of travel: The incumbent is expected to travel to various locations across the USA and, possibly, internationally. All travel-related costs will be covered, in line with WIPO’s travel policy.

Expected duration of assignment: January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024

1. Objective of the assignment

WIPO delivers specific PCT training to users, associations, and firms in the United States
of America (USA). WIPO wishes to retain the services of an external contractor.

2. Deliverables/services

(a) Upon specific request from WIPO, the external contractor shall engage in activities to promote greater understanding and usage of the PCT System including providing courses and seminars, both in-person and virtually (webinars, etc.).

(b) The daily rate should include advance preparation time by the external contractor, delivery of the course material, and the preparation of a report following the conclusion of the event. WIPO will provide the contractor, upon request, the current training materials.

(c) Under paragraph 7(e) of the standard WIPO contract for the provision of services, the external contractor may make public the fact that he has provided services to WIPO as an ad-hoc PCT speaker. The name or emblem of WIPO shall not be used for    advertising or for any other promotional purpose without prior authorization.

3. Reporting

The external contractor will report to the Director, PCT Legal and User Relations Division.

4. Profile

(a) A law degree or university degree in a related field.

(b) Ability to present and explain complex PCT-specific subject matter to a wide-range of audiences.

(c) Excellent organizational and planning skills.

(d) Ability to work independently.

(e) Detailed knowledge of patent and PCT procedures in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and detailed knowledge of the PCT procedure, including a detailed knowledge of the ePCT tool.

(f) At least 5 years of practical experience in the administration of the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

(g) Multiple years of experience in delivering training and related services to a wide-range of audiences.

5. Duration of Contract and Payment

The external contractor will provide an invoice after the conclusion of each event or on a monthly basis if there are several events in a given month. The number of events and/hours will be determined by the designated WIPO official. The maximum yearly amount of the contract is USD 50,000. This amount includes remuneration, travel and subsistence allowance.
