The primary responsibility of the Payroll Accountant is the preparation and processing of CARE’s international payroll for 200+ International staff located in 45 countries using the UKG payroll platform.

Responsibilities include:
• Processing the international payroll
• Entering and maintaining complete and accurate employee payroll data in partnership with the People & Culture and HRIS team and researching issues
• Establishing, maintaining, and improving internal controls so that process and procedures remain in compliance. Backup to payroll accountant who processes the bimonthly US-based payroll
• Deliver excellent customer service to employees and the Country and Field Offices with strong interpersonal, collaborative and relations management skills
• Support audit requests for information
• Prepare monthly journals and account management

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Payroll Processing

  • Manages, prepares, and submits bi-weekly and international staff payroll. Reviews, audits, calculates, and processes all payroll data to ensure that all CARE employees are compensated accurately and efficiently. Interprets and ensures that all applicable CARE policies and procedures are followed. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll wage and tax laws including tax notices and state registrations. Audits and updates payroll deductions information from Country Offices.

2.Customer Service and Communications

  • Manages the payroll email box and provides excellent customer service to employees. Develops response to questions about payroll, compensation, taxes, policies, and procedures, from US-Based and International employees verbally and in writing. Develops both complex and miscellaneous ad hoc reports as requested from auditors, and others. Supports the Country Offices and US teams by researching and resolving issues. Recommends and implements process improvements.

3.Ensure receipt of payment

  • Partners and coordinates with the Treasury and AP departments for wire processing and other payments to International employees and prepares related reports and journal entries as necessary. Serves as the point of contact for employee related communication related to the timely deposits of wire payments and questions related to the paycheck delivery.

4.Preparation of regulatory filings

  • Process year-end adjustments prior to preparing earnings statements to all US Citizens and Resident Aliens on CARE’s payroll. Create and distribute W2’s in accordance with IRS regulations. Responsible for timely year end procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent.
  • 7+ years hands-on payroll experience.
  • 3+ years hands-on UKG experience.
  • 3+ years global international payroll experience.
  • 3+ years payroll accounting and reconciliation experience.
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite experience.
