Position Title: PIH Engage Summer Intern
Reports to: Manager of Grassroots Strategy
Location: Boston, MA (PIH funded travel to Washington, D.C. 8/9 – 8/12)
Employment Type: Summer Internship, Full-time, 10 weeks, June to August 2024
Position Overview

The intern will join a small team at PIH dedicated to building a movement for the right to health. The intern will work with PIH Engage, a grassroots network of local teams of volunteers who execute campaigns consisting of advocacy, educational, and fundraising activities. The intern will strengthen the PIH Engage network by taking the lead on projects in the areas of campaign development and program improvement. Projects include developing campaign resources and trainings for the PIH Engage network through monitoring developments in US government-supported global health and domestic health equity policy, seeking feedback from volunteer team leaders, and using organizing frameworks to map grassroots campaigns.

Responsibilities:
  • Editing and developing informational materials on advocacy, education, and fundraising campaigns for the grassroots network (40%)
  • Assisting in organizing the Training Institute, a training and campaign development conference in Washington D.C. for PIH Engage team leaders (30%)
  • Strategizing with the PIH Engage Network Leadership Team about how to best support the grassroots network of PIH Engage teams (15%)
  • Collecting, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting data generated by the grassroots network (15%)
Qualifications:
  • Extracurricular activities, coursework, or other demonstrated interest in movement building, community organizing, or advocacy strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in global health equity preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy or health policy preferred
  • Completion of global health-related coursework preferred
  • Proficiency with Excel or other spreadsheet software preferred
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries
  • Interest in social justice strongly desirable

Pay and Benefits
The pay for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $20/hour.
