Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, the “Technical Systems” service is responsible for the maintenance, development and improvement of software products which support MUAC in achieving its safety and capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand. It provides also resources to various projects in its area of expertise and maintains technical hardware.

Your role

Your role will be to:

• Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of (safety) critical IT Platforms (PaaS) and associated services, for both operational and non-operational systems.
• Collaborate with end-users to analyse requirements, translating them into concrete platform and system specifications while considering operational constraints.
• Identify and resolve technical issues, bugs, and change proposals, providing innovative solutions including prototyping, comprehensive documentation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and ensuring compliance with quality and safety management standards.
• Contribute to the upgrade of Platform Services, including effort estimation, planning, and implementation, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
• Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation to facilitate system understanding and support future development efforts.
• Participate actively in the integration and testing of platform systems, ensuring robustness and reliability.
• Engage in working groups, projects, and studies to contribute expertise and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance business practices and operational efficiencies, presenting concrete proposals for implementation.
• Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

• Completed university studies of at least 4 years in a relevant area (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).
• In addition to the above, a minimum of 1 years of relevant working experience.
• Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining IT Platforms and services, with a strong focus on Kubernetes.
• Experience with Virtualisation.
• Experience in analysing requirements and translating them into technical specifications.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix and scripting languages.
• Technical writing skills (English).
• The following would be considered an asset:
  • Knowledge of/experience with Terraform/Ansible
  • Knowledge of/experience with OpenShift or Kubernetes Operators
  • Knowledge of/experience with Jira and Git/Bitbucket.
  • Knowledge of DevOps pipelines
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles and practices (e.g., GitOps)

• The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year(s) and it may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
