The main function of the Plumber is to repair the pipes and drainage systems that are connected to appliances, machines, and water fixtures in the UN House.

Under direct and immediate supervision of the UN Building Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the above-mentioned duties within the UN House and adjacent territory. The incumbent shall neither seek nor accept any instructions from any authority external to the UN in connection with the performance of its duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performing repair and maintenance of water supply and drainage system;
  • Performing repair and maintenance of water storage tanks, pumps etc;
  • Performing minor level upgrade works on water supply, drainage and water storage systems;
  • Performing repair of plumbing, fixtures;
  • Performing general repair and maintenance works of furniture, doors, windows, finishes etc.;
  • Performing installation/removal of tables, chairs, microphones in the UN Conference Hall, according to the meeting schedule arrangement requirements;
  • Performing a variety of unskilled tasks as cleaning yard territory, watering plants, load carrying, etc.;
  • Maintain a professional courteous manner with the UN Agency staff;
  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with the organizations guidelines;
  • Follow established company policies;
  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned;
  • Ensure compliance of all work related activities in a fair, ethical and consistent manner

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the UN House.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:  Secondary or Technical College education.
Experience:  Minimum 2 years of work experience in similar field of activities, specifically in installations, repair and maintenance of water supply, plumbing and drainage systems.

  • Good  technical skills in repairs and maintenance
  • Troubleshooting skills;
  • Mechanical know-how; Ability to use hand and power tools connected to the plumbing trade in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Ability to maintain accurate and specific records and inventories;
  • Demonstrated professional competence in plumbing and related trades;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Dedicated and careful; high level of accuracy and attention to details;
  • Knowledge of relevant safety procedures;
  • Conscientiousness and efficiency in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results;

Desired additional skills and competencies

  • Experience to read and understand blue prints and rough drawings;
  • Ability to prioritize activities and assignments and adjust priorities as required;
  • Knowledge of the latest technology related to the plumbing field is desirable;
