ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking to fill an exciting policy position that will be based in our Policy and Advocacy Team. The Policy and Advocacy Team leads on the organisation’s advocacy initiatives through the development of policy positions, representation of Transparency International at international fora and towards key stakeholders within the anti-corruption community, and cooperation with TI National chapters on shared global thematic priorities.

Since 2021, the TI movement is implementing its new strategy Holding Power to Account – A Global Strategy Against Corruption 2021-2030, which outlines three Strategic Objectives. We are looking for a talented and outstanding individual to support the development of research and policy related mainly to SO 2 Dirty money flows and SO 5 Enforcement and Justice from within the Global Anti Corruption Consortium (GACC) team, so encompassing sufficient flexibility for on-demand research and communication support to the TI-S GACC team as well as chapters collaborating with GACC.

OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS
Role Purpose:  Support research and policy development related to TI’s thematic priorities, in particular work carried out through GACC in the area of corrupt money flows and enforcement and justice.

Band: Salary according to TI-S internal salary structure; for this position corresponding to band PF1; salary starting EUR 35,175.00 gross per year (full-time) depending on relevant experience

Starting Date: 1 December 2023

Contract Duration: Currently we can offer an employment contract limited for a duration of 2 years

Working Hours: full time [100%; 40 hours per week]

Location: Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S), Berlin – with occasional international travel as needed

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE

Based in the Policy & Advocacy Team, the Policy Associate will:

  • Provide background research and analysis for the development of evidence-based policy papers and submissions to relevant public consultations
  • Liaise with TI national chapters on relevant policy and advocacy opportunities as part of the GACC project
  • Support the analysis of information from varied and diverse sources for messaging and communication purposes
  • Draft messaging and communication products in coordination with the communications department
  • Support the development of funding proposals
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and learning activities
  • Provide assistance on a wide range of tasks (e.g. editorial, administrative, organisational) when required

CANDIDATE PROFILE

In order to succeed in this role, candidates will need to meet the following:

  • University degree or equivalent in law, political science, economics or another relevant field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience – preferably with an International NGO or International Organisation – in the fields of anti-corruption or good governance; specific experience on research and policy work related to natural resources, state capture or anti-money laundering an advantage.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in working with large datasets an advantage
  • Some experience in contributing to research projects
  • Strong written communication skills; professional language proficiency in English, fluency in other languages, in particular French and Spanish, an asset
  • Strong IT literacy, in particular MS Excel
  • Demonstrated interest in good governance and corruption related issues and advocacy
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Transparency International
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and maintain a professional approach
